Job Summary:

The Associate Manager, Marketing Designer is responsible for overseeing the creative process and project management program for all design requests, acting as a key team leader responsible for OpenGov's visual brand.

This is a hands-on role as most of our creative is produced in-house and requires a high level of stakeholder management, communicating timelines, aligning on goals of campaigns, and being effectively plugged into the needs of the marketing team, while balancing design requests from leaders across the organization, and innovating on our existing designs and materials. This person will also be a people manager to one designer and manage vendors. The role reports into the brand and communications team.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and design assets that bring our brand to life, connect with government buyers and drive engagement across multiple channels.
  • Lead and execute on a range of design projects for the marketing team, including website design, promotional imagery, webinar and event support, print materials, and swag.
  • Effectively intake, plan for/communicate around, and deliver on design requests through effective sprint planning, time management, and articulate communications to stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines at a time - using project management tools and skills.
  • Manage and develop direct reports to have successful careers at OpenGov
  • Manage vendor relationships to successfully complete projects on time, on budget, and meet expectations.
  • Coach designers to produce effective, impactful work that supports initiatives while hitting deadlines.
  • Leverage new marketing technology and tools, including platforms for producing 'scrappy' marketing assets, videos, landing pages, lead-gen forms and quizzes, etc.
  • Create original assets including custom imagery, photography, illustration, icons, infographics, video/animations, etc.
  • Maintain brand standards in all designs and update the design system and guidelines as the brand evolves.
  • Stay current on new media trends and strategies to identify innovative ways of delivering on objectives.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
  • Strong communication and diplomacy/stakeholder management skills
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment
  • 5+ years of relevant experience on a creative team, either in-house or agency, with at least 1 year of people management experience, either a team, intern, or mentorship
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign as well as Figma or other design and wireframing tools
  • Expert creative and technical problem solver with a fanatical attention to detail
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS and familiarity with Wordpress is preferred
  • Ability to facilitate and direct projects in digital, print, and other mediums
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and analytically
  • Experience and knowledge in establishing and enforcing brand standards
  • Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user interaction and experience
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment
  • Strong work ethic with outstanding time management skills
  • Proven ability to manage and incorporate feedback from multiple project stakeholders
  • Good file management practices
  • A portfolio of work showcasing past work - must be submitted with the application
