What You Will Do:

Path to Academics, Community and Employment (PACE) at National Louis University is a three-year, post-secondary certificate program designed to meet the transitional needs of young adults with multiple intellectual, learning, and developmental disabilities. The role of the Student Life Manager (PACE) is to provide residential leadership for students and staff, as well as facilitate all mental health aspects aimed at students' emotional and behavioral functioning. This role will be responsible for monitoring students' mental and physical well-being and for coordinating all necessary individual student supports from within and outside of the PACE Program. Student Life Manager runs all group therapy sessions, carries an individual counseling load, and provides 24/7 on call coverage to residential staff and Student Life Counselor. This is a full time, supervisory, 12-month position with 24/7 on-call responsibilities while students are in session (30 weeks total).

Essential Responsibilities

    Monitors PACE students' overall well-being by providing individual psychological and emotional support, conducting weekly counseling groups, and acting as the primary contact for parents/guardians.
  • Provides dorm management for all student issues and works directly with students, Student Life Counselor and Part-time Residence Life Advisors to teach and reinforce social skills development, develop student goals, and facilitate problem solving sessions as needed.
  • Provides on-site oversight and 24/7 on call support to Student Life Counselor, Resident Life Advisors, Clinical Interns, as well as University Center staff regarding students concerns and crises.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution and mediation for students utilizing program guiding principles and oversees resolution of procedural violations of the Residence Hall Handbook, NLU Student Guide Book, or the Residence Hall Contract. Serves as Program facilitator for University judicial procedures that involve PACE students.
  • Develops and coordinates counseling internship structure, related materials, didactic opportunities, and trainings.
  • Develops dorm life structure, schedule, and corresponding programming and adjust as needed on an ongoing basis.
  • Creates protocols, tracking, and assessment materials that are adjusted as needed on an ongoing basis (i.e. for communication, medication noncompliance, student safety concerns, mental health/case management tracking and assessment materials, etc.).
  • Participates in regularly scheduled PACE Leadership Team, NLU Student Affairs meetings and others as needed.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or other closely related field
  • Affiliated license to practice in the state of Illinois (LCPC or LCSW) required
  • At least 2 years of residential or post-secondary experience desired, preferably with people with disabilities
  • Basic computer skills required (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills
  • Manages each stage of a project to ensure that commitments are met in a manner that is timely and within budget. Clearly defines roles and responsibilities, determines necessary resources, and monitors project performance through appropriate systems and procedures.
  • Personally demonstrates that external (or internal) customers/students are a high priority. Identifies customer/student needs and expectations and responds to them in a timely and effective manner. Anticipates and prevents delays or other things that can adversely affect the customer/student. Keeps customers/students informed about the status of pending actions and inquires about their satisfaction with products or services
