Job Summary

Under direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, provides diagnostic laboratory test results. Ensures appropriate collection and preparation of patient specimens, performance of laboratory test procedures according to protocols, instrumentation, and evaluation of information taking appropriate action as needed.

Laboratory Procedure Manuals and Safety Manuals are available for reference during and after individual training. It is the responsibility of Laboratory staff to follow the procedures approved by the Lab Director and suggest revisions as needed.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$24.19 per hour

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Subpart M, Section 493.1489.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
1.Knowledge of tests and procedures provided by the SHS Lab.
2.Knowledge of state and federal licensing requirements (ie. CLIA)
3.Knowledge of physiology and pathology as related to clinical diagnosis and treatment.
4. Knowledge of basic principles of lab medicine as it relates to medical clinical lab testing.
5. Knowledge of basic medical clinical instrumentation.
6. Knowledge of instrumentation troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
7.Manual dexterity.
8. Oral and written communication skills.
9. Ability to learn basic management principles.
10. Ability to learn basic computer operations.
11. Organizational ability.
12. Ability to operate complex lab equipment.
13. Ability to maintain necessary records and reports.
14. Ability to recognize abnormal results and act appropriately.
15. Ability to interact effectively and appropriately with SHS facility personnel.
16. Ability to determine the validity of results and initiate corrective action.
17. Ability to manage several tasks at once.
18. Ability to perform phlebotomy.

Work Hours

8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
