The Opportunity

The Accounting Supervisor for the TC Energy USPL West Pipelines Accounting and Financial Reporting team will have the opportunity to work on a variety of financial reporting and general regulatory accounting and reporting duties associated with major natural gas pipelines in a highly focused team environment. While providing accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including general ledger accounting, regulatory accounting, accounting research, and financial reporting, they will have the opportunity to collaborate with talented people and make a valuable contribution to the organization.

This position within U.S. Pipelines Accounting will report to the Accounting Manager. This position is located in Houston, TX.

What you'll do

  • Reviews/Performs in depth analysis of major natural gas pipelines company financial details
  • Ensures all required transactions are recorded and ensures timely and appropriate reporting of results as required
  • Prepares and/or Reviews monthly recurring journal and adjusting general ledger entries
  • Prepares and/or Reviews monthly general ledger account analysis
  • Reviews/Oversees monthly reconciliations
  • Ensures items identified in the reconciliation are resolved/corrected in a timely manner
  • Prepares and/or Reviews the quarterly standalone financial statements in accordance with US GAAP and related analysis/reports
  • Prepares and/or Reviews reports documenting explanations and analysis of significant or unusual variances in actual results from budget, forecasts and prior periods
  • Prepares and/or Reviews financial statements and other documents required under debt covenants
  • Tracks and Verifies applicable financial debt covenants are being met
  • Provides/Reviews supporting schedules of key financial information to the Income and Property Tax Group used in the required federal and state filings
  • Provides schedules and supporting documentation on key general ledger accounts, documentation of analysis and technical accounting research and draft related financial reports to ensure timely completion of audit required for Debt compliance and Regulatory (FERC) compliance
  • Coordinates timely preparation of key requests of auditors with the other groups such as property accounting, commercial, etc.
  • Maintains SOX compliance
  • Participates in the budgeting process by providing key data to the US Planning and Cost Accounting group as needed.
  • Prepares and/or Reviews FERC Form 3Qs and Form 2s every reporting period and ensure timely filing of such
  • Helps in the development and training of staff level accountants
  • Participates in various job duties/responsibilities and special projects as directed by the leader or determined on own initiative such as perform accounting back up duties if anyone is out of office, etc.
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Minimum of 6 years of accounting experience with increasing responsibility
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, and policies
  • Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and make decisions and recommendations within established accounting procedures
  • Self-motivated with a strong analytical skill set willing to learn and tackle new challenges on an ongoing basis
  • Has the ability to exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information as well as handle deviations from standard methods
  • Is a team player that collaborates as well as communicates well with others to achieve results
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and train staff level accountants
  • Uses appropriate planning and project management skills
  • Possess clear communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient use of Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA License
  • FERC reporting experience
  • Knowledge of SAP accounting software
  • Public accounting experience
  • Oil and gas industry experience
