Are you looking for an opportunity to the manage the successful deployment of a full range of Environment Health and Safety services across the region and business units in a technically robust way? If so, this is the role for you.

As a Senior EHS&S Specialist, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security/Emergency Response (EHS&S) programs to ensure a safe compliant work environment.

As the Sr EHS&S Specialist, Chemicals & Industrial Hygiene, this role will continue the development, implementation and maintenance of critical health, safety, and hazardous materials (chemical and biological) safety programs to mitigate key risks to the site. This position will serve as the primary site SME for chemical safety and Industrial Hygiene. It will also support the site and assigned value streams relative to general/industrial safety needs - championing EHS principles across the site and working with management and staff to continuously drive EHS performance

Therefore, to be successful for this role, you will need to have both experience in a facility EHS role as well as specific experience relative to chemical safety and industrial hygiene.

  • Ensure GSK standards are embedded into the project and operations to mitigate key risks for the site.
  • Assess chemical and biological hazard risks from new and existing materials and processes.
  • Assess effectiveness of existing exposure controls and advise on different control methodologies.
  • Evaluate compliance with federal, state, local, legislation and GSK requirements related to EHS&S, interpret requirements, and provide recommendations for compliance
  • Perform program audits, facility inspections, and generate recommended corrective actions.
  • Manage key health and safety risks to our people (GSK personnel, contractors, and visitors) and our reputation (federal, state, and local regulators and external public).
  • Project Management / Implement EHS&S programs at the Marietta site, verify programs and procedures are effective, and ensure that the site is properly identifying and mitigating hazards and risks.
  • Implement EHS&S Management Systems applicable for health, safety, environment, and security regulations & requirements.
  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate training on EHS&S programs and processes, including training of area supervisors and staff to identify hazards and conduct workplace inspections.
  • Recommend and develop specific safety improvement plans and programs based on current trend analysis and EHS&S performance.

Why you?Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor Degree in Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, or other closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • 5 years' experience in EHS&S field with progressive roles and responsibilities, including managing and executing EHS programs. Experience must include time within a facility EHS role as well as specific work experience relative to chemical safety and industrial hygiene.
  • Professional certification (CIH) or become certified within 2 years of date of hire.
  • Member of relevant professional EHS institution in order to stay current in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • CSP certification is beneficial.
  • Chemical, laboratory, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, or similar regulatory manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA safety and health regulations in general industry (29 CFR Part 1910) and a working knowledge of construction (29 CFR Part 1926). Specific knowledge related to regulatory guidelines and standards impacting work with chemical and biological hazardous materials (e.g. OSHA 1910. Subpart Z-Toxic and Hazardous Substances) is expected.
  • Experience with laboratory safety principles and in Exposure Control Banding.
  • Strong working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene principles, including assessing risk, developing monitoring strategies, interpreting data, and recommending control measures.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and management of programs related to high risk/high hazard management, risk assessments and control, processes and hazardous agents (chemical/biological), security, and emergency response.
  • Must be able to lead in a high complexity matrix environment and influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge of risk management and safety principles in chemical and biological safety.
  • Demonstrated organizational, trouble-shooting and communication skills, both written and verbal required.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize plans, developing short and long-term strategies to address complex issues, using relevant change management techniques.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment which requires one to successfully be able to change and revise plans quickly to meet demand.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to create and systematically evaluate different alternative solutions to issues, while maintaining compliance regulations and GSK standards.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail. "Right-First-Time" deliverable of work products is expected.
  • Must be able to work and make sound decisions with minimal supervision or oversight.
  • Must be able to respond to the site 24/7/365 for emergencies.
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel.
