  • HYBRID - If you reside within 50 miles of Adtalem's officein Chicago, IL, this role is hybrid, requiring office presence three days a week (Tue, Wed, Thu), with the rest of the workweek spent working from home.
Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT

  • Manage day-to-day execution of deal processes:
  • Support all due diligence work streams, including active management of data requests.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment across enterprise.
  • Manage third party financial, tax, and legal advisors, when appropriate.
  • Provide input for definitive deal documents (e.g., IOI, LOI, purchase agreement).
  • Deliver regular updates to leadership and executive teams regarding deal progress, key issues/risks, and next steps.

  • Develop and maintain financial models supporting corporate development initiatives:
  • Serve as thought partner in developing investment theses for inorganic growth opportunities.
  • Distill large data sets and key assumptions into dynamic financial models.
  • Provide valuation recommendations based on financial returns analysis (e.g., DCF, IRR, ROIC) and/or prevailing market multiples (e.g., EBITDA, ARR).
  • Update and maintain financial models based on new facts or changes in underlying assumptions.

  • Synthesize market research and competitive intelligence analyses to develop and monitor a comprehensive market map for corporate development purposes:
    • Actively manage corporate development pipeline based on both inbound (reactive) and outbound (proactive) activity.
  • Assess potential acquisition/partner targets for strategic fit.
  • Support in development of investment rationale and prioritization.
  • Prepare documents and recommendations in support of investment committee meetings.
  • Provide regular corporate development pipeline updates to vertical leaders, COO/CEO, and Board.

  • Assist with key post deal/partnership activity:
  • Develop and socialize key deal summaries and integration/separation considerations.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders with respect to interpreting transaction terms.
  • Actively participate in integration planning, ensuring proper knowledge transfer from deal/partnership team to key internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor financial performance of acquired assets and new partnerships, including key performance indicators and a qualitative assessment of strategic factors.

  • Develop C-Suite/Board level presentations highlighting progress of key corporate development initiatives.

ENTERPRISE STRATEGY

  • Assist with enterprise strategy initiatives including:
  • Development and execution of competitive intelligence capability.
  • Portfolio strategy - conduct internal and external analysis, synthesize business vertical inputs, develop recommendations for new opportunities.
  • Engage in analyses around whether to buy/build/partner in pursuit of a given strategic objective.
  • Annual strategic planning process.
  • Execution of special projects and "one-off" strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or MBA desirable.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in a top-tier M&A consulting firm, investment bank, or within an equivalent corporate development group.
  • Direct experience with executing end-to-end corporate development initiatives (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships).
  • Experience conducting hands-on analysis of target companies, including developing detailed financial models from scratch.
  • Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills combined with outstanding project management abilities, ability to apply good judgment and sense as appropriate.
  • Strong intuition / first principles thinking around business performance, business drivers, and overall competitive landscape.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; ability to synthesize and clearly articulate information and complex ideas.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated success as collaborative team player; capable of working with others and autonomously with modest direction.
  • Possess a strong drive and determination to get things done.
  • Thrive on achievement and helping others achieve their goals.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and cross-functional environment, where conflicting objectives need to be prioritized and achieved.
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and secondary research skills required; working knowledge of Capital IQ, PitchBook, and other research platforms preferred.
Additional Information

In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $77,996 and $140,851. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
