Research Audiologist, PARC

Purpose of role: The Research Audiologist, PARC is responsible for designing and conducting research. Projects include product studies to determine efficacy, limitations and usability of hearing instruments, fitting software and wireless technology and span from early technology development through post-market clinical research.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct studies internally or at external sites validating the performance of Phonak's product portfolio regarding the efficacy, efficiency, usability and safety of the devices and fitting software.
  • Conduct bench testing within PARC to support field staff and provide clinical assistance including evaluation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with external research partners to develop evaluation protocols and conduct research projects.
  • Train and support external centers with necessary technical know-how and product information.
  • Perform comprehensive audiological testing on participants.
  • Supervise audiology students/interns and provide constructive feedback on performance and abilities.
  • Maintain internal databases, adhere to compliance guidelines, perform data analysis, interpret findings and disseminate reports.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations on hearing instruments, wireless and accessory product design as well as issues around fitting software to headquarters development teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations for scientific meetings and of publications of relevant findings for industry journals.
  • Work within the Phonak Audiology Research Center (PARC) and among internal stakeholders to contribute to general audiological and product knowledge.
  • Support building and maintenance of general PARC laboratory setup.
  • Conduct and report on well-designed studies regarding the efficacy, limitations and usability of Phonak's product portfolio.
  • Contribute to evidence-based marketing material strongly supporting product claims during product life cycle (presentations at conventions and conferences, papers in peer-reviewed or trade journals, background stories, whitepapers, support material for seminar packages and product whitepapers, Phonak University).
  • Partner with other departments (Phonak US Sales, Product and Marketing teams; Phonak HQ Science & Technology, Research & Development, Validation and Marketing teams; act as resource and content leader for field trainers and technical support teams). Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Skillset:

  • Doctorate in Audiology
  • Experience as an Audiologist or Audiology Researcher, including hearing instrument fittings, psychophysical techniques, hearing tests, designing and conducting product research studies
  • Nice to have: experience with extended-wear hearing instruments
  • Tactical, proactive, curious, research-centric and technical in nature
  • Comfortable working in a high-pace environment; ability to learn quickly and independently
  • Ability to collaborate extensively with the R&D team at HQ
  • Ability to understand a patient's needs and motivate them to participate in PARC studies
  • Strong presentation skills, technical skills to support maintenance of lab and equipment; strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

A minimum of 200Mb/sec download and 10Mb/sec upload speed internet connectivity is required to support any remote/hybrid employee functionality at Sonova
