Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
In partnership with faculty, staff and graduate students, OASIS provides thoughtful, innovative and sustainable technical solutions to advance the College's mission to 'prepare people to solve the world's most challenging problems.' Information Services provides technology solutions and services in support of the College of Arts and Science's mission; specifically, it puts a personal face on technology services, delivering 'hands-on' personal, network and instructional technology support to the College community. The Office: (1) coordinates all information technology services at the College level; (2)
establishes and implements College level computing policy and procedures; (3) represents and advocates information technology interests of the College to the broader community; and (4) acts as the primary liaison between the College and University Information Technology Services. The Office reports directly to the Dean's office, College of Arts and Sciences.
Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The IT Business Intelligence & Data Analyst position plays a crucial role in supporting the College's mission by collaborating with faculty, staff, students and instructors to implement technology solutions that meet the needs of the College, including the use of data visualization tools like Tableau, R and others. The position engages in consultative discussions with members of the College community to develop strategies, advocate for best practices, and promote the thoughtful use of data analytics. Additionally, the Data Analyst is responsible for developing documentation and materials for both internal and external users.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Enterprise Solutions and Data Analytics, the Data Analyst provides data analysis and reporting support for the entire College. This involves conducting analyses to understand the business needs of each unit before gathering data, performing statistical analysis using various software tools (SQL, Python, R, etc.), and developing visualization tools and reporting dashboards (using Tableau, R and other software) across multiple areas, including academics, research, finance, and other administrative support services.

The primary duties of the Data Analyst include collecting, validating, and reporting the school's academic, operational, and financial data; developing and maintaining data infrastructures to support reporting; and regularly extracting, manipulating, analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting data. The position ensures the accuracy and integrity of data and provides support and training to end users to maximize their ability to use decision support systems and/or dashboards effectively.

Working closely with the College's IT Director and other staff both in an outside of OASIS, the Data Analyst offers expertise in creating business intelligence dashboards and reports that support the mission of teaching, research, and service, aligning with the overall goals of the school.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's and 1-2 years' experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 years' experience; or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience in conducting business needs analyses. Experience in working with large data sets and
using data visualization software, such as Tableau, to develop BI (Business Intelligence) dashboards. Careful attention to detail and accuracy are critical skills for this position, as are strong oral and written communication skills. This position must also maintain privacy of confidential or sensitive data in compliance with FERPA and other regulations.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Degree in information science, statistics, computer science, business administration, or
other related discipline. Previous work experience in higher education preferred, especially with a
focus on academic data reporting and analysis. Working knowledge of Oracle and Tableau preferred.
