What You'll Do

Assistant Terminal Managers of Gate Operations supports the Terminal Manager of Gate Operations by overseeing the day-to-day gate operations at their assigned intermodal facility, in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process information from multiple technology platforms and make timely operating decisions based on those inputs to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-oriented service.
  • Perform simple repairs to AGS equipment and escalating more complex repairs to the home office when necessary.
  • Help on-site and Remote Operations Center (ROC) staff resolve complex operations problems.
  • Help track and update system issues and problems.
  • Oversee staff scheduling, including work assignments and rotations, vacations, breaks, and coverage for absent employees.
  • Ensure that daily Safety Briefings and shift updates are completed.
  • Work with the Terminal Manager to generate each employee's key performance metrics.
  • Act as an alternate representative at Yard Audit, Site Safety, and Senior Hub Management meetings when the Terminal Manager is unavailable.
  • Assist in the input, review, and analysis of performance metrics.
  • Help all supervised employees improve and maintain performance levels.
  • Organize regularly scheduled meetings to enhance staff understanding of the strategic terminal plan and specific KPIs.

What You'll Need

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in the intermodal industry
  • Experience managing multiple staff members.
  • Strong ability to analyze and solve problems quickly and implement procedural changes in a stressful environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support teamwork; experience with team building projects.
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to accurately perform arithmetic computations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing customer requests and requirements, seasonal variances in workload, and industry needs and requirements.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong professionalism

Preferred

  • Proficiency in Synapse AGS Clerk Console, Class 1 Railroad terminal operating systems (TSS, Oasis, ITOS, OBI, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint
  • Commercial Driver's license (CDL) (not required)
  • Flexible schedule that can adapt to extended or adjusted hours as needed.

  • This role is based out of Elwood, IL 60421
  • This role requires employees to be on-site during designated shifts.
