Position Summary:
The HIM Specialist is responsible for maintaining personal health information of Carle patients through scanning, processing and reviewing medical records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal and regulatory requirements. The HIM Specialist will perform a variety of moderately complex tasks while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and quality. The HIM Specialist maintains the integrity of the legal health record so complete and accurate records are available for patient care and business use in a timely manner.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Previous clerical work experience strongly preferred, but not required. Strong customer service skills.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Independent/flexible problem solver with ability to adjust positively to changes in the work environment. Experience with Windows-based applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Ability to interpret data. Ability to build relationships. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times. Ability to concurrently manage multiple tasks and complete them on time and prioritize work. Strong analytical and technical skills to resolve routine to complex problems by following departmental procedures with minimal guidance and supervision. Able to plan, coordinate and train departmental staff on systems work flows. Ability to communicate clearly to others by email, in-person, in writing or by telephone. Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing excellent customer service and personal service. Comfortable working in a production/deadline oriented department; detail oriented.
