Job Summary

Note: This is a 1 year contract.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and co-investigators, the Data Manager will provide data management and analytic expertise for a study to compare the effectiveness of two different models of enhanced prenatal care available to low-income (Medicaid-eligible) women in Fresno County: "Glow! Group Prenatal Care and Support" (Glow!/GC) and the California Department of Public Health's Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program with individual prenatal care (CPSP/IC). The study will be carried out in partnership between the California Preterm Birth Initiative at UCSF and the Central Valley Health Policy Institute at California
State University, Fresno. Specifically, we will compare preterm birth rates, changes in depressive and anxiety symptom severity, and perception of respectful care and satisfaction with prenatal care. Clinical practices primarily serving low-income, racially/ethnically diverse patients will be randomly assigned to one of two recruitment tracks which will alternate between recruitment for Glow!/GC and recruitment for CPSP/IC. Led by Principal Investigator Miriam Kuppermann, this position is part of a multidisciplinary research team that oversees all data management and analyses. The California State University Fresno team will be responsible for patient
recruitment and data collection activities in Fresno.
This position requires an employee with excellent communication and organizational skills. Job responsibilities will include developing data collection instruments and protocols, designing and executing study databases, preparing datasets for specific analytic activities, training study personnel, managing data collection from collaborating sites, creating automated error checking systems and data reports for review by study personnel and investigators, and coordinating error resolution. The Data Manager will extract and clean datasets; plan and execute statistical analysis using their own judgment and experience with guidance from the study statistician; prepare data for presentation; prepare summary reports, charts, tables, and figures; and contribute to publications and presentations. They may also assist with statistical analysis for other research studies led by the Principal Investigator.

Department Description

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob, Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine, engaged in clinical, research and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campuses, the new Betty Irene Moore Women's Hospital at Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $149 million. Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 3+ years of related experience
  • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming.
  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with statistical software packages (SAS, STATA, and/or R). SAS proficiency
  • Ability to provide custom-designed and automated reports and graphical presentation of data.
  • Experience with data cleaning and data quality control.
  • Experience in data analyses using a variety of statistical modeling techniques.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to import, export, merge and create final analytic data sets.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and epidemiologic research in the areas of perinatal and maternal and child health.
  • Thorough knowledge of research function.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and epidemiologic research in the areas of perinatal and maternal and child health
  • Understanding of HIPAA and Institutional Review Board approval process
  • Experience with UCSF policies and procedures and research administration, including UCSF IRB, MyResearch,Qualtrics, and REDCap
  • Familiarity with the framework of health equity and reproductive justice
  • Ability to accurately create summary variables from a variety of psychological scales
  • Appropriately handle missing data
