About the Role

Primary responsibilities for the Specialized Projects & Heavy Haul Manager role are growing market share with existing customers, seeking out, and executing new customer opportunities. Responsible for reviewing project and heavy haul opportunities to quote, source carriers, and manage shipments. Accountable for developing specialized project and heavy haul motor carrier relationships by adding, procuring, and sourcing carrier capacity. What you'll do:

  • Review the scope of projects to determine the necessary requirements to fulfill project and specialized transportation needs. Provide accurate pricing relative to the scope of the project.
  • Utilizes industry contacts to find and develop carriers focusing on project and heavy haul related freight. Maintain strong carrier relations to ensure capacity and position Matson Logistics as a market leader in specialized and project freight movements.
  • Negotiates carrier contract and spot rates for utilization in the specialized projects and heavy haul department. Find and dispatch appropriate trucks and manage shipments to ensure project standards are met.
  • Take proactive measures to resolve problems by identifying issues, employing critical thinking to determine optimal strategies, and swiftly implementing effective solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to develop specialized, project, and heavy haul freight segments.
  • Manage customers from a specialized operational focus and seek to grow market share.
  • Seek out new customers; market Matson Logistics specialized, project, and heavy haul services.
  • Analyze market trends, business segment performance, and other related activities to prepare and present to management and customers.
  • Leads and works effectively with internal teams to create customized transportation solutions for MIL operations and customers.
  • Complies with all Company rules, policies, and procedures. Works and behaves safely by following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.

  • Proven track record of successful work experience in the transportation industry with a focus on specialized cargo, projects, and heavy haul shipments.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Business, Marketing, Transportation, or related field.
  • Four (4) or more years of transportation sourcing/procurement/project management experience from a shipper, carrier, or 3PL.; ten (10) or more years of related experience may be substituted for degree; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office software programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of successful work experience in the brokerage or trucking business, with an extensive network of current contacts in the field.
  • Limited travel required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Other: Primarily office-based activity position with the potential for occasional on-site project management. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; and talk or hear. The employee is required to ask for assistance from coworkers or their Supervisor or Manager when lifting and/or moving any object, regardless of weight, where personal injury may occur. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
