Job Description

Job Title: Senior Equity Analyst (multiple positions)

Location: Chicago, IL

Job Responsibilities:

  • Personal Administrative Tasks (Manager Meeting, Team meeting Company events etc.) (5%).

  • The position is research focused and has client-facing responsibilities.

  • Promptly and diligently answer client inquiries regarding covered companies. (Client and Media Interactions) (10%).

  • Acquire a deep understanding of and outlook for covered companies and industries by gathering and interpreting relevant regulatory filings, reports, news, and data to create an investment mosaic (10%).

  • Maintain intrinsic value estimates for covered companies based on our proprietary discounted cash flow model. (Financial Modeling) (15%).

  • Regularly publish detailed company reports and in-depth notes aimed at a broad audience of investors. (Note and Report Writing) (15%).

  • Investigate and publish long-form research that yields insights for clients that are differentiated, substantiated, and clearly communicated. (Special Report Writing) (25%). Develop a network of relationships with industry experts and covered company representatives to enhance our research product and build Morningstar's brand and reputation (5%).

  • Proactively surface attractive investment ideas internally and externally to support all products and clients, including collaboration with the Equity Research Sales team (5%). Support and contribute to the departments and a sector team's long-term initiatives, including collaboration with global colleagues, development of talent, and review of team member research (10%). ***Telecommuting opportunities available according to company's Workplace Flexibility Policy.

Job Requirements:

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Economics, STEM, Engineering Management, or a related field, or foreign equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience either in equity research or industry, Associate Equity Analyst, Financial Product Specialist.

  • In alternative, we will accept a Master's degree in Economics, STEM, Engineering Management, or a related field, or foreign equivalent and 2 years of relevant experience either in equity research or industry, Associate Equity Analyst, Financial Product Specialist.

  • In addition, the following skills are required: experience with microeconomics including company and industry specific pricing, profitability analysis and forecasting.

  • Experience with selecting equities that deliver superior returns over a long holding period; experience with merger accounting and ability to consolidate segment level accounting; experience with the industry specific accounting conventions and ability to utilize it to spot issues in analysis; experience with forecasting and DCF Modeling;

  • Experience with scrutinizing and challenging research work undertaken by other team members; equity expertise to understand key dynamics that drive company performance such as business models, various sectors.

Must possess unrestricted right to work in the U.S. in this position.
