Your responsibilities

thyssenkrupp Crankshaft Company has an exciting opportunity for a Metallurgical Lab Technician at our Danville, IL facility. The Metallurgical Lab Technician is responsible for ensuring incoming materials meet customer specifications through mechanical and chemical testing. The technician will also conduct appropriate part sample testing, troubleshoot testing equipment, and provide analysis on testing data.

  • Education/Credentials/Certifications
    • Associate's Degree Required

OR

  • 5-7 years in a quality role in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other technical curriculum Preferred
  • Length of Experience
    • 2 years product testing experience preferred
    • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
    • Understanding of customer specifications
    • Knowledge of blueprint reading
    • Knowledge of ASTM standards
    • Excellent oral and written language ability
    • Intermediate mathematical ability (ratios/proportions, statistics, some calculus)
    • Excellent problem solving and reasoning ability
    • Basic understanding of chemistry foundations and symbols
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Ability to perform under stress
    • Manual skills such as those necessary for maintaining machines and operating testing equipment
    • Ability to operate testing equipment such as Spectrometer, micrometers, microscopes, and hand tools
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to follow testing procedures
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Outlook)

Your profile
  • Conduct both mechanical and quarterly chemistry product testing, mainly for forging plants
  • Setting up and running fatigue testing, hardness testing, tensile testing
  • Scribing and gaging test samples
  • Documentation of test results
  • Schedule cut-up of test samples with saw operators
  • Troubleshoot testing equipment; perform mechanical and electrical work on equipment if necessary
  • Mount samples for torsional testing
  • Heat and mount rings to crankshafts for testing
  • Assist with urgent testing needs for Machining plant
  • Run product tests as a result of field failures to determine root cause and need for investigation
  • Determine grain sizing
  • Enter data in database and devise necessary charts and reports
