Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • Operational: Monitors and coordinates all aspects of the department to include workflow, procedure volumes, and charges to ensure maximum work output with a minimum of patient dissatisfaction.
    • Coordinates daily and weekly workflows, room usage and scheduling needs for routine and add-on procedures.
    • Monitors and ensures proper coding and capture of charges.
    • Monitors outstanding/incomplete work.
    • Works closely with scheduling personnel to ensure appropriateness of exam.
    • Acts as contact person for patient, visitors, and physician's and staff concerns, complaints or dissatisfaction; makes any immediate corrections as appropriate to satisfy customer needs and forwards all complaints and any actions taken to manager.
    • Oversee supply ordering for assigned areas to assure continuity in patient care. Determine inventory usage, monitor usage and resolve any issues related to supplies.
    • Perform exams in areas where licensure or experience permits when necessary to maintain adequate coverage and operations.
    • Respond to patient questions and concerns about specific procedures
    • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained in all areas including computer and patient information and communications.
    • Ensure compliance with department and AMG policies including MVP, Service Recovery methods and scripting.
    • Assign and monitor staff attendance at mandatory in-service programs.
  • Personnel: Coordinates direct reports with regards to schedules, work assignments and quality improvement standards.
    • Conducts performance reviews and minor disciplinary actions for direct reports within timeframe designated by the Advocate.
    • Conducts meetings for direct reports and department meetings.
    • Communicates changes in policy and procedures, operational and clinical protocols, via appropriate method.
    • Updates standard workflow and procedures as appropriate. Assists with updates of policies as needed
    • Prepares time and attendance for processing, resolving any errors and pay disputes.
    • Coordinates and oversees training of new employees in Imaging Suites according to department policies and procedures; responsible for evaluation and/or verification of employee competency.
    • Maintain an environment conducive to associate satisfaction through active monitoring of department technical, safety and quality of care issues
    • Prepares staff work schedules
    • Approves requests for PTO, etc.
  • Quality: Under the direction of the Radiology Practice Manager and Medical Director, Improvement maintains a Quality Improvement plan for the Department.
    • Evaluates films and makes recommendations for improvement in either technique or positioning as needed.
    • Monitors technical competence of staff
    • Monitors equipment, trouble shoots and determines the need for and makes service support calls when required.
    • Maintains communication to all service support personnel to monitor downtime status; coordinate needed preventative maintenance and make schedule adjustments as necessary.
    • Collect pertinent data and prepare required monthly reports to present at department meetings when requested.
    • Recommends actions or methods for improvement to department operations.
    • Attends continuous quality training classes as appropriate as required or recommended by the Radiology Practice manager.
    • Assists with ensuring the department meets all guidelines, rules and regulations as recommended by AAAHC or any other regulatory agency policies the clinic adheres to.
    • Serves as a liaison with internal and external customers with a focus on improving business relationships and resolving customer complaints.
    • Participate in Radiology Management committee
    • Participates on AMG West committees, task forces and special projects to help improve communication and promote growth for the department.
  • Compliance: Assures compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local governing body accreditation standards and requirements.
    • Ensures all staff are licensed and/or accredited as necessary.
    • Maintains reports of all equipment and personnel monitoring and inspections that are required.
    • Prepares and ensures department is ready for all inspections by the physicist and Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
    • Assists with preparation for AAAHC accreditation process when necessary
    • Ensures all MQSA guidelines are being met for Mammography.
  • Financial: Works with Department manager to prepare annual capital, personnel and operating budgets.
    • Assists manager by identifying needs for annual budget
    • Prepares initial budget recommendations in time frame outlined by the finance department.
  • Education: When necessary or appropriate, maintains and assists with appropriate educational issues and activities for the AMG West/Advocate and for professional growth and licensure requirements.
    • Assists with the organization of and participates in educational lectures provided for the community and sponsored by Advocate as needed.
    • Participates in and assists in the development of staff in-services, continuing education, and orientation programs.
    • Maintain educational requirements as required for IEMA licensure and attend and participate in opportunities that provide professional growth and learning.


Education/Experience Required:

  • ARRT Registered in Radiography and at least one other modality (CT, MRI, NM, Mammo or Ultrasound) or ARDMS.
  • Prior healthcare leadership experience required.
  • Certified and Registered by ARRT or ARMDS * (Radiology)
  • IEMA License
  • Current CPR certified Previous healthcare leadership


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Demonstrated technical skills with mammography equipment
  • Knowledge of film quality control
  • Basic computer skills
  • Working knowledge of mammography operations and needs
  • Certified and Registered by ARRT or ARDMS
  • Radiology
  • IEMA License
  • Current CPR certified


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing and fast paced environment
  • Must demonstrate confidence in one's own ability and have a calming effect on patients and staff
  • Must keep abreast of changes in regulatory requirements, including FDA, IEMA, ACR, and MQSA.
  • Must understand and take seriously the social and psychological issues associated with mammography
  • Must engage in continual learning and review of new and emerging technologies and operational functions in a Mammography Department
  • Must be able to function in an environment with multiple physical movements that are repetitive in nature and associated ailments.
  • Understand and operate safely with exposure to ionizing radiation
  • Ability to travel to various sites for working and meetings as needed.
  • Willing to work hours necessary to complete work assignments and to cover during absences if necessary.
