Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

This department oversees the design and construction of Metra capital projects and oversees the work of contractors implementing these projects. Capital projects overseen by this group include stations and parking as well as structural, electrical, and mechanical design.

Reporting to the Director, Project Controls, the Senior Risk and Change Coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of all risk and change policies, procedures, and systems for the Metra Capital Delivery Program.

The primary duties include: Lead the change management function for all projects within the Capital Delivery Program with the purpose of minimizing unanticipated impacts on the organization and its technical operations. Manage the risk management process including risk identification, assessment, analysis, mitigation planning, and tracking of identified risks. Develop and implement effective risk management documentation to identify, mitigate, and track threats. Establish project risk performance metrics to measure the achievement of overall goals. Perform quantitative analysis of change requests to determine both cost and schedule impacts. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team of engineers, managers, sub-consultants and clients in the identification, assessment, management, and reporting of risk exposure. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act, not the Social Security Administration.

1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

2. In addition to #1 above, must have a minimum of seven years of Risk Management and/or Change Management experience, preferably in an infrastructure related field.

3. Considerable knowledge of:

  • risk management and organizational change control best practices.
  • Qualitative Schedule Risk and Qualitative Cost Risk Analysis fundamentals and industry leading tools.
  • risk register creation and management.

4. Good organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

6. Proficiency in risk management tools such as @Risk and Acumen Risk.

7. Skilled in the cost and schedule quantification of risk data.

8. Ability to:

  • work well with others and conduct training consisting of multi-disciplinary members.
  • complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • interface concisely with executive level staff.

9. Must:

  • possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • be able to operate a vehicle and be willing to travel within Metra's 6-county region.
  • be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Preferred:

  • Project Management Professional
