College for Kids (CFK) Assistant

Since 1980, Parkland College's College for Kids (CFK) has provided area youth with exciting and innovative experiences designed to ignite a lifelong desire for learning. College for Kids provides the opportunity for students ages 6-13 years old to explore areas of study and interest in a non-graded, fun-filled environment through quality, hands-on experiences. This position is a part-time hourly, seasonal appointment with an hourly rate of $14.00/hr.

Program Goals:

  • Provide hands-on explorations in specialized fields such as science, math, language arts, computer science, technology, humanities, and fine arts.
  • Provide challenging and intellectually stimulating experiences so students to pursue their special interests.
  • Expose students to a learning environment that will motivate them to achieve their highest potential.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Attend mandatory CFK Instructor/Staff Orientation on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 5:00 PM.
  • Work both sessions (June 17-27, 2024 and July 8-18, 2024) from 12:15 PM - 2:45 PM, and 3 PM - 5PM Monday through Thursday each session.
  • Promptly arrive on time and ready to work at 12:15 PM.
  • Engage students in the classroom and support their learning by building relationships. Create a fun, relaxed environment for learning.
  • Assisting in maintaining a safe environment for all students and staff.
  • Assist in classroom management.
  • Assist instructor in classroom preparations, including, but not limited to locating and organizing supplies, setting up classroom for projects, light cleaning and disinfection of classrooms and supplies, collecting projects, visiting supply room, communicating to instructor and/or Youth Programs Manager any supply needs.
  • Safely escort students to and from classes, restrooms, and snack areas. Manage and organize student dismissal and pickup after classes.
  • Ensure students are picked up by an approved person.
  • Communicate any emergencies by phone in a professional, timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 17 years of age by staff orientation (June 6, 2024).
  • Highly motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Must commit to attending mandatory CFK Instructor/Staff Orientation on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 5:00 PM.
  • Must be available for the entirety of the sessions.
    • June 17-27, 2024
    • July 8-18, 2024
  • Patience when working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A professional attitude and the ability to work well independently and with others, including parents/guardians.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
