POSITION TITLE: Faculty, English/World Language
STATUS: Full time, Tenure track
DEPARTMENT: English/World Languages

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Full-time Faculty
MINIMUM PAY RATE:Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Qualifications include education and related work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for all students; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and open communication. Twelve credit hours a semester constitute a standard load when that load consists of nine credit hours of composition courses; fifteen credit hours a semester constitutes a standard load otherwise. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.

2. Demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.

3. Teach courses primarily in composition, with developmental writing, technical writing, and/or literature courses scheduled when enrollment and availability allow.

4. Teach online and/or hybrid courses when enrollment and availability allow.

5. Participate in course development, assessment, and planning activities.

6. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.

7. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.

8. Assist students with academic advising.

9. Teach at other campus sites as needed.

10. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master's Degree in English, with a focus on composition theory, rhetoric, professional writing, or literature.

2. Two years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.

3. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction, including learning management systems.

4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

5. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

6. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Teaching experience at the community college level.

2. Experience in teaching online and/or hybrid courses.

3. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.

4. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
