Position Highlights:

  • Position: Utility Clerk
  • Location: Edward Hospital
  • Full Time
  • Hours: 11:30pm-8am (overnights) with rotating holidays

A Brief Overview:

Operates equipment assigned to outside maintenance under general supervision. Must be able to use hand tools and do minor repairs on equipment assigned to exterior maintenance. In addition, may be assigned to pick up hospital equipment and supplies in response to hospital emergencies. Assists with the removal of the snow from sidewalks as needed in emergency situations. Maintains established level of inventory for the Facilities/Engineering department, by placing orders for Facilities/Engineering supplies, minor equipment and other items as directed. Receives shipments of supplies and equipment, inspects for damage and/or defective merchandise and counts hospital equipment and supplies received from vendors. Compares physical count with data recorded on vendor packing slips in order to verify accuracy of shipments and reports discrepancies as appropriate.

What you will do:

  • Maintains Hospital campus grounds in clean, attractive and orderly condition. Performs such duties as:
  • Conducts routine rounds of all parking lots and driveways to check and report any deficiencies with exterior conditions of walks, stairs, parking area, etc.,
  • Spot fills pot holes, cracks and spalling as appropriate,
  • Cleans and sweeps exterior portions of the receiving dock, ER garage, and Hospital entrances,
  • Weeds and waters existing plants, trees and shrubs as assigned.
  • Maintains work area in a neat orderly manner to facilitate storage and stock piling of materials (i.e.; salt, sand, residual stock, etc.), and
  • Maintains parking lot lane markers (i.e.; ropes/barrels, etc.) on an on-going basis.
  • Empties refuse contains located in premises exterior and/or interior as needed.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment including lawn mowers, snow removing equipment, sprinklers, shears and the like using small hand tools. Maintains all hand tools, power tools and equipment according to department standards. Cleans and stores tools the end of shift. Performs basic repair when necessary and applies preventative maintenance sticker.
  • Maintains level of established inventory by ordering supplies and minor equipment. Checks in shipping deliveries (i.e., UPS, Federal Express, etc.) and puts items into inventory. Inspects items visually in order to verify accuracy and condition of shipments received from vendors and compares number of items, description and code numbers with information on packing slips. Records and/or reports discrepancies or damaged/defective merchandise before signing receipt or invoice. Ships unwanted or damaged material to vendor for credit, repair or replacement. Stores supplies and equipment according to established storage locations and inventory rotation procedures.
  • Receives and processes emergency requisitions for supplies held in inventory and assembles and delivers supplies requested.
  • Assists Engineers with minor building maintenance and repairs in order to respond to peaks in service requests or staffing shortages. Cleans and sweeps equipment rooms
  • May be assigned to pick up hospital equipment and supplies in response to hospital emergencies.
  • Removes debris from work sites during renovation projects and/or major equipment overhauls.
  • Assists in moving bulk/heavy equipment to and from work site.
  • Completes and returns all work orders on the shift worked according to department procedures. Informs supervisor of equipment in need of repair.
  • Respond to codes as appropriate.
  • Assists with moving furniture and event set-up as needed.

What you will need:

  • High School Required
  • Valid driver's license is required. If the incumbent uses their personal vehicle, the incumbent must maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law and evidence of such coverage may be requested. Required
