Overview

Patient Services Rep. - PT 24 hrs./week

Working under general supervision, performs general business office functions including but not limited to greeting patients in a friendly and courteous manner. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Programs to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers incoming calls and asks appropriate questions to assess patients' needs. Taking efficient messages with proper information.
  • Ensures all insurance, demographic and eligibility information is obtained from patients and entered into the system in an accurate and timely manner. Register patients in system as necessary.
  • Collects co-pays, deductibles and other out of pocket amounts at the time of visit.
  • Schedule follow up appointments for the lab chemotherapy and providers.
  • Collects patient insurance information for proper verification and eligibility.
  • Obtains pre-authorization of services and/or referrals.
  • Balances receipts, reconciles daily work batches, and prepares audit trail. Prepares deposits for bank as needed.
  • Provides patients with appointment details such as time, location, directions, and instructions. Records call statistics in New Patient Log. Maintains and updates physician schedules ensuring patients are scheduled property. Works in conjunction with the triage nurses to accommodate scheduling requests.
  • Provides coverage for other coworkers for vacation and illness.
  • Provides excellent customer service to patients and families. Demonstrates compassion and empathy.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 3 to 5 years medical business office experience.
  • Excellent customer service and empathy is a must.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
  • Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

COMPETENCIES NEEDED:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Previous knowledge of Electronic Medical Records highly desired.
  • Previous Oncology experience highly desired.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft (Outlook, Office Word, and Excel) highly desired.
  • Adaptability: Handles day to day work challenges confidently; is willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities; demonstrates flexibility.
  • Commits to Quality: Emphasizes the need to deliver quality products and/or services to patients, families as well as physicians and other staff members.
