Summary: This is a unique senior managerial position that works under the direction of the Assistant Director for Accreditation, Validation and Credentialing within the Division of Education to manage the ACS MyCME program, CME Accreditation Program, and the Joint Providership Program, with overall direction from the Director, Division of Education. This includes more than 2000 activities/year, with successful growth over the last ten years and significant projected growth looking forward.

This position is responsible for the College's accreditation by the ACCME and compliance with the AMA. Together with staff, this involves maintaining all documentation relating to the activities accredited by ACS (directly and jointly sponsored); preparing and submitting annual reports to the ACCME (directly and jointly sponsored); leading the comprehensive self-study in preparation for the review of ACS as an accredited CME provider; preparing the complete application for re-accreditation by the ACCME and participating in the re-accreditation process; submitting the appropriate files for the review; and preparing and submitting all progress reports and other documents, as mandated by the ACCME following the review.

This senior level position in the ACS Division of Education serves as the ACS resident expert regarding CME and represents the ACS at a national level. This position updates other managerial staff members across the ACS on the new and evolving national accreditation standards. The person in this position serves as a consultant to managers within the Division of Education, across the ACS and to Joint Provider Partners regarding specific activities that require special handling to remain in compliance with the accreditation standards.

This position manages a team of one Manager, 3 administrators, and collaborates with colleagues across ACS ensuring a successful CME Accreditation Program. The Senior Manager fosters staff development and supports a collegial productive team, helping assign responsibilities accordingly. As a Senior Manager in the Division of Education, this person is responsible for status reports, budgeting, strategic planning and evaluating staff. This position works closely with other Divisions of the College. This position plays a key role in the ACS Clinical Congress (planning, implementation, and evaluation), especially as it relates to CME Credit offered. Additionally, the person in this position works closely with the Senior Administrator, Validation and Credentialing, and is responsible for the management of MyCME platform and tier products. MyCME is a digital portfolio of CME credits earned by individual surgeons.

Lastly, the Senior Manager for Continuous Professional Development Accreditation is a local and national leader in CPD and CME Accreditation. This person is responsible for identifying opportunities for growth, process improvement and managing complexities related to the CME Accreditation Program, as they arise. This is especially critical with the new ACCME Commendation Criteria and the most recent ACCME/AMA Alignment. A focus on offering educational content in innovative ways, enhancing evaluation processes, and using outcomes for purposes of improvement, is critical. Changes, enhancements, and growth led by this individual should be informed by accreditation changes, educational theory, ACS needs, and or individual surgeon credentialing and licensing requirements.

This exempt position will report to the Assistant Director for Accreditation, Validation and Credentialing in the Division of Education.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Master's degree in business administration, health policy, public health, or related field from an accredited college or university is required.

  • 4-7+ years of experience in health professions education and accreditation, including expertise in accreditation standards is required.

  • Must have successfully led an organization in an ACCME accreditation and/or re-accreditation cycle, and in planning and conducting accreditation self-studies.

  • Should have significant experience in developing educational programs, including but not limited to, needs assessments and gap analyses, development of learning objectives, innovative and diverse delivery methods, evaluation of learners and outcomes of educational programs.

  • Must have significant experience with data collection, analysis, and presentation; budget planning and management; and staff and/or project management.

  • Must have supervisory experience.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to effectively interact with all levels of organization.

  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with all division teams and management.

  • Experience in Associations, professional services, healthcare, and/or education desired.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is required to make specific work assignments to others and to ensure their timely and accurate completion. This position is required to complete a formal evaluation of the work performed by others.

  • Fiscal Management: This position is required to develop and manage a unit's annual budget, program or project budget within the department. This position is responsible for meeting revenue goals and the expansion of the Accreditation CME program through JPP recruitment and retention and product derivatives to support the myCME tier product offerings.

Other Necessary Requirements: Evening or weekend duties may be required. Moderate travel (i.e., quarterly) for activities such as out-of-town meetings is required.
