Job Description

Heritage has full-time positions that work with our Crisis team, providing crisis intervention to individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use crisis in Macon and DeWitt County. The goal of the Crisis Team is to provide support and guidance to any individual seeking behavioral health treatment services. Additionally, the Crisis Team supports any Heritage staff or community provider needing support or assistance in navigating a crisis, resource, or treatment need. Services will be provided in various settings, including emergency departments, community settings with law enforcement, individuals' homes, community agencies, healthcare organizations, and Heritage. These positions are full-time, and work collaboratively with clients, community providers/organizations, and Heritage staff.

Positions available include;

  • MH Recovery Support Specialist
    1. Individual applicants must have lived experience with mental health or substance use
  • Crisis Counselor - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts available with competitive pay - $5,000 -$7,000 sign on bonus available based on credentials (education/experience) - 2 year employment commitment
  • Crisis Counselor for Youth and Family - day shift mobile crisis counselor - $5,000 - $7,000 sign on bonus available based on credentials (education/experience) - 2 year employment commitment
  • Care Coordinator

Responsibilities Include:

  • Telephone and face-to-face crisis intervention
  • Respond quickly and timely to any request for crisis team assistance
  • Crisis assessment, counseling, and referral and linkage to treatment services
  • Supportive follow-up calls following a client's contact with crisis services
  • Engage individuals following a discharge from an emergency department or psychiatric hospital
  • Complete assessments using various screening and/or assessment tools including suicide risk assessments, IM + CANS, IM-CAT, and USARF
  • In partnership with individual, create a crisis safety plan
  • Provide support and assistance to Heritage staff in navigating crisis intervention
  • Provide response for any individual presenting at Heritage that may need support, assistance, or referral and linkage
  • Provide case management services to refer and link individuals to eligible to community resources including, yet not limited to: housing, SSI/SSDI, Medicaid, healthcare, support groups, employment.
  • Participate in a team-based approach to providing treatment including collaboration with clinicians, nursing, healthcare providers, probation, landlords, and other partners invested in the individual's recovery
  • Attend clinical staffing(s) to collaborate with providers to coordinate treatment including nursing, physicians, clinicians, and the ACT Team
  • Ability to participate in a rotation of crisis services after hours (evenings, weekends, and/or holidays) with competitive pay/reimbursement

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with individuals with a diagnosis of mental health and/or substance use in a kind, caring, and supportive approach that instills hope
  • Ability to build rapport quickly with individuals seeking help
  • Ability to work with community providers to partner is a collaborative, helpful, and supportive
  • Knowledge of case management techniques
  • Knowledge of community resources, including psychiatric, substance use, medical, and/or other community services
  • Ability to work independently and within a team-based environment
  • Ability to seek guidance and supervision
  • Flexibility to an uncertain and changing day-to-day schedule
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to navigate electronic health record
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals in behavioral health settings by providing an individualized approach to support an individual's wellness and recovery. Key characteristics of this position will include the ability to meet people where they are in their recovery, being non-judgmental, and building rapport quickly.

Credentials eligible for this position include:

Mental Health Professionals are defined as:

  • Five years' experience in behavioral health,
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS),
  • Bachelor's Degree in psychology, social work, human services or related field,
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field with two years of experience in a human service-related field.
  • Candidates with lived experience will be eligible if they can obtain CRSS or FRD certification within two years of hire.

Qualified mental health professionals (QMHP) are defined as;

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, pastoral counseling, or family therapy.
  • LSW, LPC, LCSW, LCSW
