Job Description Summary:

The outpatient psychotherapist position supports Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, a specialized team of providers who strive to utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. This unique team, comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, doctorate level providers and social work, is interested in adding exemplary, experienced members to our group. The person filling this position will provide full time therapy services to patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disorders.

Position Requirements:

Education Required:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, orDoctorate's Degree in Psychology


Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in providing therapy in behavioral health.

  • Experience preferred: Working with patients with developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrates the ability to function in a complex mental health delivery system.


Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required:

  • PsyD or PhD issued by the state of Illinois or Social Worker, Clinical license issued by the state of Illinois; LCSW Preferred.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Will frequently be required to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance, and will occasionally be required to lift over 25 lbs. with assistance.

  • May be exposed to the following hazard: mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders and twist.

  • Must be able to restrain and control patients who are outwardly psychotic or physically combative.

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.


Purpose:

  • Pediatric Psychologist or Social Worker in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics will conduct evidence~based evaluations as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing treatment to children in early childhood through adolescence.

  • Focus will be on the etiology, treatment and prevention of emotional/behavioral/neurodevelopmental disorders.


Accountabilities:

  • Interviews and evaluates patients/families, establishes diagnosis, and monitors patients' behavior.

  • The treatment plan is developed collaboratively with the patient and family by defining goals, specific outcomes and timeframes for treatment.

  • Intervenes psychotherapeutically to change attitudes, beliefs and behavior of patients to improve individual and family level of functioning.

  • Provides clinical/therapeutic services to a diverse client population.

  • Accepts and treats all patients as identified or assigned willingly and with professionalism.

  • Applies brief therapeutic intervention model as appropriate.

  • Provides case management and after care services for patients in his/her assigned caseload.

  • Provides education to patient and family as needed.

  • Counsels patients/families in crisis to stabilize patients' condition in order to prevent patients from harming themselves or others, and uses short~term crisis intervention techniques and/or referral to other support services.

  • Actively participates in clinical supervision and peer review activities.

  • Provides consultation with other professionals, including ongoing clinical team treatment staffing.

  • Demonstrates ability to utilize and teach appropriate cognitive/behavior management and skill building techniques.

  • Develops and leads at least one treatment and/or skills building group for children and/or parents.

  • Accurately completes all documentation responsibilities as outlined in department/service area procedures within established timelines.

  • Documentation responsibilities include but are not limited to: treatment plans, discharge summaries, aftercare plans, records for billing, etc.

  • Assists in treatment development, innovation and improvements.

  • Participates in performance improvement activities and care management initiatives as directed.

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth
