Position Highlights:

  • Position: Vascular Technologist
  • Location: Chicago, IL
  • Full Time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am -4:30 pm, Rotating Weekends
  • Required Travel: Yes, Skokie as needed.


A Brief Overview:
This position is designed to provide non-invasive vascular exams independently in accordance with ICAVL standards. This position will serve as a mentor for Tech 1 providing hands on training and supervision of Tech 1. Tech 2 will work with the manager on additional projects such as equipment selection and evaluation, revision of test protocols, quality assurance issues and the ICAVL accreditation.

What you will do:

  • Knowledge and application of NorthShore policies and procedures that apply to job and area of responsibility.
  • Performs Vascular testing independently.
  • Arterial imaging
  • Venous Imaging
  • Carotid Imaging
  • Questions regarding exams checked with Manager prior to patient leaving department
  • Records preliminary findings in all patients' charts.
  • A legible concise report is recorded on all in-patients
  • All out patient venous preliminaries are phoned to ordering physicians
  • Positive venous results on in-patients are phoned to nurse, intern or referring physician
  • Take responsibility for the day to day decisions in order for department to run smoothly
  • Take charge of the daily schedule coordinating exams with the nursing units and physician offices
  • Assists reading physicians in locating and organizing materials as needed
  • Notifies attending physicians of abnormal findings, follows up with physicians instructions and relays info as needed
  • Responds appropriately in an emergency
  • Assists clerical staff in clerical duties
  • Scheduling

  • Faxing reports
  • Ordering Supplies
  • Helps prepare paperwork to insure hospital and physician maximum reimbursement
  • Reads available material in vascular lab to learn anatomy, physics and vascular technology
  • Utilizes manager and vascular lab physicians as mentors to increase learning of vascular technology
  • Actively participates in learning and training process
  • Attends outside CAVA (Chicago Area Vascular Association) conferences pertaining to vascular technology
  • Operates ultrasound equipment in operating room
  • Available on demand to assist surgeon with ultrasound knobology
  • Trains tech 1 in knobology
  • Maintains and cleans equipment daily
  • Notifies manager of mechanical problems in order to have repairs made.
  • Assists physicians and manager with delegated duties.
  • .Assists manager with ICAVL accreditation
  • Assists reading physicians in locating any material needed.
  • Maintains patients comfort and safety during vascular testing
  • Responds appropriately in an emergency situation
  • Assists patients family as needed
  • Monitors patients pain level during vascular testing; consults with patients nurse if needed
  • Side rails up following exam
  • Assists patient with bathroom needs
  • Rotates to other NorthShore vascular sites as needed
  • Is able to function independently at other NorthShore vascular sites
  • Operates equipment at other vascular sites
  • Prepares paperwork to insure hospital and physician reimbursement
  • Has good understanding of CPT and ICD 9 coding
  • Obtains pertinent history from patient prior to exam
  • Takes responsibility for physician reimbursement forms and completes required information

What you will need:

  • Diploma or Vocational Degree Required
  • 2 Years At least 2 years vascular experience in the hospital setting. And
  • 2 Years - only those with greater than 2 years of experience as a vascular technician
    ONLY are recommended to be placed in this position/grade. New hires who
    have related but not specific experience as a vascular technician are
    recommended to be hired into level I.
  • Graduate from an accredited ultrasound/vascular tech program. Will need to take RVT within 2 years of employment. Required
  • RVT,CRVT or eligible.If not certified or registered, must obtain RVT Required
