Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

  • CLINICAL SUPPORT
    • 1)Provides supplies specifically required as determined by acuity of case, age of patient, and anesthesiologist preference
    • 2)Responds to stat requests to equipment users to determine the extent of reported problems, and makes the determination as to who is best capable of resolving the suspected problem, using in-house CE resources {X8980} or outside vendor service sources.
    • 3)Checks monitoring equipment for proper operation (EKG machines, CO2 monitor, blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeter).
    • 4)Treats customer with compassion and respect
    • 5)Investigates ways of satisfying customer
    • 6)maintains patient confidentiality at all times
    • 7)follows the policies and procedures of infection control by demonstrating knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques
    • 8)follows procedure for proper disposal of contaminated materials
    • 9)Checks and test anesthesia machine for cleanliness, damage, and availability of necessary accessories. Cleans hoses and ventilator filters
    • 10)Checks anesthesia machines for readiness/availability of accessories and performs routine testing
  • CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE
    • 1)Verifies equipment malfunctions and performs corrective maintenance actions on anesthesia clinical (patient care related) devices, instruments and systems
    • 2)Documents all actions and test results according to department policy
    • 3)Assists outside vendors in their delivery of anesthesia repair services and audits their service report to ensure proper documentation and to verify charges
    • 4)Identifies malfunctioning parts and assemblies and determines the best source for acquiring the needed Component(s) taking into account financial and time constraints
  • TECHNICAL PROJECTS AND OTHER DUTIES
    • 1)Checks O2, N2O, Air "E" cylinder pressure, Air, N2O "H" cylinder pressure in EPS, N2O "H" cylinder pressure in X-ray, Inspiratory and expiratory flow valves, Oxygen flush button, Water traps, The drains to remove condensate, Absorbant, Breathing circuit, Gas sample line, Backup cylinder pressure, AC power, Pipeline hoses connections
    • 2)Perform daily startup of anesthesia machines
    • 3)Moves anesthesia machines from one anesthesia location to another as needed per the anesthesia providers
    • 4)Calibrate oxygen analyzer on the GE Datex-Ohmeda
    • 5)High and low pressure leak test on the GE Datex-Ohmeda
    • 6)Develops new equipment PM and incoming acceptance testing procedures, test vaporizers and switch them out if needed
    • 7)Attends manufacturer or other technical service training schools and seminars
    • 8)Meets with equipment manufacturers and service organizations to discuss repair, maintenance and applications of equipment.
    • 9)Assists with all projects, as assigned, related to the acquisition, installation, refurbishment, relocation or modification of medical equipment, devices, instruments and systems.
    • 10)Sets up in-services as needed for residents and attendings on new equipment
  • SCHEDULED PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY TESTING
    • 1)Performs safety testing on clinical equipment items, devices and systems (owned, leased, and rented) as assigned, using specialized test equipment, tool, and simulation devices.
    • 2)Documents all actions and test results according to department policy
    • 3)Check low pressure leaks for, oxygen fail safe, exhaustion of soda-sorb
    • 4)Check monitoring equipment for proper operations
    • 5)Assist outside vendors and monitors the completion of preventive maintenance activities they perform on assigned equipment
    • 6)Reviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to department management staff concerning the need to make changes to the schedule frequency, procedures and/ or data documentation forms
    • 7)Instructs Residents the proper method of equipment preparation. This teaching mode is necessary for the future safe use of anesthesia machine by anesthesiologist who will be practicing independently
  • PEOPLE GROWTH
    • 1)Accepts team responsibilities as assigned
    • 2)Completes assignements/projects
    • 3)Maintains own educational record, timecards
    • 4)Attends mandatory inservices
    • 5)Maintains competencies
    • 6)Maintains current knowledge of the clinical application of equipment, devices, instruments and systems so as to be able to ascertain whether or not such equipment is operating in a safe and effective manner
    • 7)Reviews technical literature, service manuals, trade publications, and any other biomedical service and support documents, as a means to keep up with current clinical anesthesia and service/support related issues
    • 8)Assists with in - service education sessions to equipment users, in assigned clinical units, alls shifts
    • 9)Instructs other in the safe use, application, testing, preventive maintenance and repair techniques on all types of clinical equipment technologies, devices, instruments and systems
  • FINANCIAL
    • 1)Ensure that appropriate inventory levels pain and airway management equipment and supplies are available. Order and maintain established levels of stock utilizing the Lawson system.
    • 2)Routinely checks expiration dates on items as necessary
    • 3)Verifies charges presented by outside vendors
    • 4)During parts and supply selection takes into account financial and time constraints
  • ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE
    • 1)Demonstrates personal accountability

  • Stealth System coordination and other pre-op and intra-op equipment support for anesthesia and pain service
    • 1)Set up and run Stryker Stealth System
    • 2)Be able to learn (through hospital or vendor provided education) other technologies that might be needed for pre-op and intra-op support
  • Responsible for collaborating with healthcare team to provide for a cooperative work environment
    • 1)Share knowledge in a supportive/educational manner
    • 2)Act as a preceptor to other anesthesia techs
    • 3)Assit in maintaining goals and competancies for the department
    • 4)Maintain a working relationship with peers
    • 5)Communicate with patients, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team in a positive and respectful manner
    • 6)Comply with hospital and department policies and procedures


Education/Experience Required:

  • Associate's degree in electronics computer or biomedical equipment technology, or equipment training/ or equivalent experience Two or more years experience working on anesthesia medical equipment and systems.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good communication skills to be able to interact with both patients and equipment users () clinical staff). Ability to effectively use a computer to document work efforts. Ability to use electronic test equipment to troubleshoot and repair medical equipment to the board level.
  • American Society of Anesthesia Tech Certification


Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work under stressful environment created when clinical equipment users (physicians, nurses) mandate that their equipment be repaired in minimal time frames. Exposure to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and air borne contaminants possible. Ability to travel locally as required.
