HDR is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group located in our Rosemont, Illinois location. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team of Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Site Civil Engineering. In addition, we offer specialty services consisting of Fire & Life Safety, Building Commissioning, Specialty Lighting, Controls Systems, OT Cybersecurity and Low Voltage/Security/Telecom. Our team works in a wide variety of markets including but not limited to Corporate/Commercial, Finance, Civic, Healthcare, Industrial, Water/Wastewater, Federal and Mission Critical buildings, and site infrastructure.

Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Mechanical Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Coordinate the work of mechanical engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Assess and design wide range on HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Establish client relations, and participate in marketing, design and production meetings with regard to mechanical systems
  • Assume the mechanical lead on many projects
  • Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work efforts with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager, Regional Controller and Regional Director for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Provide client and/or project management on select clients and projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • 5 years experience in HVAC and plumbing system design
  • Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois
  • Computer experience using MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, manufacturer selection software
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, previous team coordination and project management experience
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Familiarity with Revit MEP is preferred
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
