The Opportunity

The College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at National Louis University in Illinois is pleased to announce its search for a Full-Time Counselor Educator with expertise in School Counseling to join our CACREP-accredited Master of Science in Counseling Program. The program offers advanced graduate training in the fields of Clinical Mental Health, School Counseling, and Addictions. School counseling faculty and individuals with a certification in addictions are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities for this position include teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching expectations will cover a variety of areas within our School Counseling track and foundation courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling track as needed, including courses in counseling theory and techniques, assessment and diagnosis, and internship/practicum/supervision. Faculty also engage in supervision of practicum and internship field placement experiences, advising and mentorship, and serving on university committees. The successful candidates will exemplify skill in working competently with students and faculty representing a broad range of cultures and identities. Applicants must be Licensed Professional Educators with PEL-School Counseling Endorsement or eligible to obtain the PEL within 12 months of hire. Essential Responsibilities
    Teach core counseling courses, with emphasis in School Counseling (both didactic and clinical, including supervision of practicum/internship) for Masters students;
  • Maintain active membership and involvement with appropriate professional organizations;
  • Advise and mentor students;
  • Engage in university service and professional/scholarly activities

While this position will be based at the Wheeling, IL campus there is an expectation that this role may also teach in person at the Chicago, IL or Lisle, IL campus as needed.

Qualifications

Candidate review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

  • Earned research or practitioner doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Counselor Education & Supervision (preferably from a CACREP-accredited program);
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement in Illinois. Candidates who hold both PEL and LCPC credentials are especially encouraged to apply;
  • Commitment to experientially based education;
  • Ability to contribute to and work collaboratively as part of a diverse faculty and with a student body representing a broad range of cultures and identities.
  • Knowledge and experience using technology in teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach in two or more of the eight (8) CACREP areas;
  • Experience working as a School Counselor;
  • Teaching experience in the field of counseling;
  • Experience in CACREP re-accreditation process and/or CACREP accredited program administration
