Joan Ginsberg is a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and volunteer junkie. She has been volunteering since high school and currently volunteers with HR-related groups and animal rescue/shelters. Armed with a Bachelors degree (with honors) in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, Joan Ginsberg began her professional life as a uniformed police officer in suburban Detroit. Police officers acquire many skills, including but not limited to: negotiation, attention to detail, multi-tasking, setting priorities, and complex problem solving.

Upon deciding to put these skills to better use, Joan left police work to attend the Detroit College of Law, after which she became a law professor specializing in commercial law. After her teaching contract expired, Joan jumped at an opportunity to become a manager at a meat processing facility co-owned by her husband. With no human resources function in the company, Joan took on the task of creating one. Joan discovered that HR was her true calling and she blogs about the HR profession on her blog, Just Joan.
