Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be primarily tasked with moving dirt efficiently, safely, and accurately. Also, placing pipe according to plans & directing support crews in a safe manner. They will be tasked with performing labor and other duties as assigned.

MasTec’s Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $2 billion annual revenue business unit that provides construction services for industrial facilities; building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants; solar, wind, and thermal energy plants; buildings, and infrastructure.

 

Location & Travel Details: This is a location-based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires an average of 90% of travel. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform a daily walk around, report and turn in meter hours o each piece of equipment you were
    operating that day.
  • Clean out cab of equipment you were operating that day. Including trash, sweeping, and keeping
    windshield and mirrors clean.
  • Turn in daily timecards with specific tasks completed.
  • Report any equipment problems to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Check all fluids before running equipment.
  • Clean tracks and assist in fueling for following day operations.
  • Always advise the Supervisor if you are unfamiliar with a piece of equipment so you are afforded time to get oriented or so an alternative operator may be identified until you are trained.
  • Always perform an excavation permit prior to any disruption of soil.
  • Perform twice daily trench inspections when appropriate.
  • Always have locates in the equipment.
  • Attend and participate in daily safety toolbox meetings and a review of the task hazard analysis.
  • Notify Supervisor of unsafe practices.
  • Responsible for having *safety vest, *hardhat, *safety glasses, *work gloves, *hearing protection and work boots available to you whenever on a job site. (* Indicates items provided by ACC)
  • Always lower buckets to the ground before stepping off of equipment.
  • Remain within the limitations of the specific piece of equipment.
  • Double check that all locates have been completed prior to starting work.
  • Always operate equipment with the running lights and your seatbelt on. Park the equipment in an orderly manner with doors closed and when necessary, vandalism controls in place.
  • Be certain of sub surface obstructions by referring to plans and confirming wit GCS before tampering with these objects.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to read blueprints and operate equipment to achieve the desired results.
  • Knowledge and ability to properly operate and maintain various types of construction equipment.
  • General experience as an equipment operator on construction sites. 

 

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

 

  • Know the limitations of each piece of equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices.
  • Ability to lift items weighing 30 pounds while performing daily job tasks.
