PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses hand and power operated tools to dismantle rail car trucks.
- Assists in the removal of units and parts such as drawbars, wheels, traction motors, axle units, brake units, hydraulic pressure control units and other similar units.
- Removes accumulated grease, dirt and grime from units and parts using potent cleaning solvents and applies protective materials to components.
- Develops a thorough knowledge of the various truck components; the techniques and procedures involved in the dismantling and inspecting of these components visually and with simple go/no-go gauges; and the tools, instruments and equipment used in the performance of assigned maintenance functions.
- Assists in the loading and unloading of rail trucks from delivery vehicles.
- Becomes familiar with the operation and maintenance of all new equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.
- Must be competent in the use of hand and power operated tools.
- Required to supply certain basic hand tools per approved tool list.
- Required to pass a physical examination and perform the physical activities of this position.
- Must possess the communication skills necessary to understand written and verbal instructions relating to this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Required to lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel and climb up to 100% of job cycle.
