Description

This position will have administrative, teaching and direct patient care duties as core faculty
for the SIU-Alton Family Medicine Residency Program. The position will coordinate and
teach family medicine resident physicians in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Outpatient
clinical duties will be performed at Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation. Inpatient duties
will be performed at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Examples of Duties

I. TEACHING (35%)
A. Actively precept as teaching physician in the resident outpatient clinics to
include not only patient care aspects and procedural skills but also time
management skills, doctor-patient relationship, professionalism, ethical and
legal considerations, billing and coding.
B. Serve as mentor to family medicine residents, including meeting with them on
a regular basis to review their rotation evaluations, chart notes, to counsel and
advise them on any problems or issues, and appropriately document findings or
results in their professional development folders.
C. Conduct and supervise inpatient-teaching rounds.
D. Develop and facilitate core curriculum conferences for the residency program.

II. SERVICE (60%)

A. Provide direct patient care to own panel of patients.
B. Conduct procedure clinics as needed per patient demand.
C. Participate in family medicine hospital service and call.
D Serve on the SIHF and/or AMH Committees, as assigned
E. Serve on school and department committees, as assigned
F. Participate in community outreach projects
G. Attend faculty meetings and resident conferences
H. Participate in peer review and Quality Improvement activities

III. ADMINISTRATION (0%)
IV. RESEARCH/ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES (5%)

A. Conduct research and scholarship in areas of particular interest and publish in
peer-reviewed journals.
B. Attendance/presentation at national professional meetings.
C. Complete a minimum of 2 scholarly activities every 5 years.


Qualifications


A. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
B. Graduate of accredited medical school program
C. Successful completion of an approved residency program at time of hire
D. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine at time of hire
E. Licensed in the State of Illinois or eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois
F. Must be willing to practice inpatient medicine
