Major Responsibilities:

  • Performance of a wide variety of general, OB/GYNE, vascular and small parts ultrasound procedures in compliance with ultrasound protocol.
    •     1)With minimum supervision, provides optimal, complete and accurate images for diagnostic non-invasive assessment of the abdomen, pelvis, pregnancy, small parts.
    •     2)Learns to assist physicians during invasive procedures, adhering to sterile techniques.
    •     3)Reads the department protocol for different procedures to learn other exams
    •     4)Works closely with charge technologist to have his/her images checked prior to calling the Radiologist for interpretation of exams.
  • Documentation of patient history, and images for analysis and interpretation. Reviews patient charts for medical information.
    •     1)Correlate current exam data with that from the patient’s prior exams.
    •     2)By utilizing AIDET, explains test procedures to patient to reduce anxiety.
    •     4)Learn the functions of the Radnet and Cerner.
    •     3)Communicates and/or Fax “STAT” and "Call Reports" reports to physician offices, nursing units, and Emergency Department upon request.
    •     5)Learn the aspects and functionality of PACS system
  • Ensures a secure and safe patient and work environment.
    •     1)Complies with OSHA Standards for infection control to prevent cross-contamination to patients and instruments.
    •     2)Maintains policies for cleaning of equipment including all probes and filters.
    •     3)Cleans, prepares, and sanitizes machines, tranducers and endocavity transducers according to manufacturer recommendations and established infection control standards.
  • Provides technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound Department.
    •     1)Interacts closely with the Ultrasound Lead Technologist to provide for smooth daily operation of the department.
    •     2)Helps in answering telephone, creating the daily workflow, putting supplies away, etc. as needed
    •     3)Demonstrates reliability for attendance and punctuality.
    •     4)Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility for change.
    •     5)Attends regularly scheduled Ultrasound Department meetings and in-services.
    •     6)Works as a team member.
  • Responsible for staying abreast of the latest ultrasound developments. Obtains required amount of CME's to uphold registry or registires.
    •     5)Spends time on his/her own reading and preparing for certification in OB/ABD
    •     6)At all times the technologist will serve the health needs of patients in his/her care in a manner reflecting the holistic philosophy of Advocate, i.e. the values of compassion, equality, excellence, partnership and stewardship.
    •     7)Follows all standards of behavior taught during the orientation process.
    •     1)Obtains registry certification thru ARDMS.
    •     2)Watches videos and tapes as suggested by the Department Lead
    •     3)Attends continuing education seminars. Maintains industry standards by taking required amount of CME's
    •     4)Helps maintain department accreditation by following the procedure protocol closely.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Ultrasound.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Be able to perform Abdomen/ OB exams with some supervision. All exams are checked by a charge technologist prior to an interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Registered in either Abdomen or OB and must be registered in within one year of hire. RVT registry is a plus. CPR Certification.

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Requires good judgement, needs reliability, responsibility, independent thought and action. Extreme flexibility in working hours and on-call rotation.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
