Job Description

The Data Domain Sr. Manager is responsible for strategic planning and designing of our data domains, while developing and leading data domain operations in alignment with business requirements. This role will oversee and manage one or more of Sherwin-Williams data domains by ensuring that all data used within the domain is accurate, complete, consistent, and reliable. This role works closely with data stewards and manages the data domain analysts to prioritize domain initiatives. Deliverables from data domains include partnering with Data Technology to define the data model for the domain, building out the business glossary and business metadata and overseeing the approach to creation, maintenance, use, and disposal of critical data within the domain. Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing data standards that align with industry best practices and ensuring that data is managed with appropriate controls to comply with policies and standards pertaining to the assigned domain. Finally, this role is responsible for leading conversations with named Business Stewards and Custodians, guiding them to provide relevant information supporting their individual Business Groups to ensure progress as it relates to key company-wide initiatives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

  • Develop and maintain domain-specific data models, standards, and procedures
  • Prioritize and drive the identification and resolution of data issues and risks within the domain by working with stakeholders across the organization
  • Oversee that data in the domain is managed in accordance with the organization's data governance policies and standards
  • Collaborate with Data Governance team members to ensure that data quality, accuracy, completeness, and consistency is maintained within the domain and sub-domains for critical data elements (CDEs)
  • Work with business users and Data Technology (DT) team to define domain business needs and implement the data domain
  • Develop and maintain a data dictionary and catalog for the domain, in collaboration with the Data Governance and Metadata Leads
  • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams within the organization to understand the data consumption and usage
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the data domain and provide guidance to the team on best practices and industry standards
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and prepare regular reports for executive leadership for the domain

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Management, or a related field or in lieu of related degree, at least 12 years of experience in data management for the assigned domain, or 8+ years of business experience supporting key initiatives related to specific domain.

Preferred:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP) preferred

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • 12+ years of experience in a data analysis and/or relevant business experience related to said domain.
  • 8+ years of experience managing and leading a team of direct reports
  • Awareness of enterprise-level data models and understanding of the different types of data models
  • Experience in leading data management projects and teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of Canonical Data Models and data virtualization

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred:

  • Data Profiling and ETL tools
  • Database Technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL)
  • Data Visualization Tools (e.g., Denodo, Tableau, Power BI, Looker)
