40 Hours | Flexible schedule to meet department needs to include possible evenings and weekends

Position Summary

Responsible for management of the Illinois Small Business Development Program and administration of the Illinois Small Business Development Center Grant as part of the Workforce a Development Division.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC), utilizing a wide variety of management skills to serve diverse clientele
  • Develop, plan and coordinate programs and activities consistent with the goals and objectives of the ISBDC
  • Provide direction for center personnel, both consultants and clerical
  • Maintain an effective local Board of Advisors for the ISBDC
  • Develop internal and external resources to accomplish program objectives including actively seeking additional funding sources
  • Provide direct counseling and training or referrals of clients to appropriate sources as necessary
  • Develop and manage center's operational budget
  • Research current issues associated with small business operation
  • Plan and execute programming to address current changes to the business climate and relevant issues associated with operation of a small business
  • Maintain a current reference library and database as required by the ISBDC Program
  • Establish linkage and working relationships with other centers or small businesses that may provide additional resources to the center
  • Maintain current data on private sector consultants for referral to members of the small business community
  • Maintain client control records and management information system
  • Prepare timely and accurate reports to the SBA/ISBDC
  • Maintain and analyze data on program effectiveness
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times
  • Promote the ISBDC and the needs of the small business community
  • Establish a marketing plan that will allow for high visibility of the center
  • Coordinate and cultivate relationships with SCORE, local governments, local chambers of commerce, professional associations and economic development groups
  • Represent small business development interests at appropriate community organizations
  • Develop programming to address needs of small business owners
  • Report program performance to IL Department of Commerce and Economic Development
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Support and participate in the College's commitment to continuous improvement Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Economics or other relevant field
  • Five years' experience in small business management or business consulting
  • Two years of leadership experience either in directly managing employees or in a project management role
  • Budget and program management experience
  • Public relations experience involving public contact and public speaking engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to get results within a team environment and foster productive working relationships at all levels of the organization
