Job Output

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Packaging Lead is responsible for organizing the orders to be packaged by the Packaging team by committed ship dates. They are also responsible for keeping the team supplied with the necessary materials and tools for packing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attend production meetings
  • Organize and pack orders by committed ship dates
  • Keep teams focused on safety, quality, and accuracy
  • Keep lines moving efficiently and with minimal waste
  • Maintain supplies needed to perform packaging duties
  • Report weights and dimensions of packaged materials to the Customer Care team
  • Wrap and strap materials onto oversized skids for national and international shipping
  • Assemble high quality parts for packaging on fast-paced and consistent schedule
  • QC (Product) review - This is the last step and last chance for product review, any discovered defects should be reported to the Production Manager and flagged before shipping
  • QA (Process) input and development - review cut quality, assembly process issues, etc.
  • Organize materials for packaging and package materials in accordance with instruction from the Manufacturing Engineering department
  • Take all important measures to ensure safety
  • Utilize hand-held tools, such as a hand-held staple and strapping gun
  • Use a fork-lift to weigh and store finished orders (not every team member will be fork-lift certified)
  • Assist in performing quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area

Qualifications

  • Consistency of Method - documents and updates our processes daily, striving for consistency
  • Sense of Urgency - quantity and quality are equally important.
  • Forklift certified for some team members
  • Comfortable in manufacturing/production environment; ability to work as a team
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Possesses manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma/GED required or Associates Degree in Business Administration; or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 1-3 years in a manufacturing or purchasing environment with a focus on accuracy and quality
  • Comfortable in fast-paced work environment where processes are still evolving and are updated as needed depending on business requirements

Location & Reporting:

This position works out of the Turf manufacturing plant (Gilberts) and reports to the Production Manager. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Requires regular lifting 30-50lbs.

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions with standard level of noise common to an office environment including office equipment and co-workers speaking to each other and on phones.
