Overview

Clinical Educator - Cardiology

M-F, 8a-5p

The Clinical Educator will assist with care coordination for a specific patient population interfacing with administration, clinical nursing staff, physicians and patients/families. The Clinical Educator is committed to ensuring education services and resource support to staff, patients and families. This position will also assist manager with administrative/operational work.

Responsibilities

Education

  • Serves as an educational and clinical resource for patient/family and staff.
  • Assesses competencies and education needs of staff.
  • Educates staff on new policies, procedures and equipment. Tests individuals on competencies.
  • Delivers onboarding training to newly hired employees.
  • Facilitates in-service activities for staff to provide educational programs and to meet institutions competency requirements.

Clinical Excellence

  • Assists with care coordination for patient population interfacing with administration, clinical nursing staff, physicians and patients/families.
  • Utilizing the nursing process, coordinates, and implements care of patient within the Cardiac Cath Lab and CTU areas under the direction of the Nurse Manager.
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to operate specialized equipment in the Cath Lab including, but not limited to the following:
  • Point of care testing: activated clotting times (ACT), oxygen analysis
  • Cardiac Assist equipment: intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella heart pump
  • Interventional equipment: rotational and pulse wave atherectomy
  • Advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems
  • Aseptic technique
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required in the administration of emergency medications used in the Cath Lab including under the direct supervision of the physician.

Administrative/Operational

  • Assist with Cath Lab scheduling
  • Acts as timekeeper for department
  • Assists with U/O follow-up.


Qualifications

Education:

  • Diploma from an RN program. Bachelor's degree or degree in progress.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in nursing or field of education, preferred.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical acute care area.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Registered Professional Nurse Licensure in the State of Illinois and Iowa. Must obtain and maintain BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and Procedural Sedation Certification.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles of adult education, ability to communicate orally and in writing, to coordinate, to plan, organize, evaluate and problem solve. Must be able to operate office and Audio-Visual equipment including laptop and LCD projector. Computer Skills in Word and Powerpoint. Strong customer service skills.
