Manager - Insulation Systems - Technology and Breakthrough Innovation

S&C Electric, a leading manufacturer of medium voltage distribution switchgear, is seeking an experienced technical leader for their Insulation / Materials Technology group in TBI. The selected candidate will be a multi-talented team member with a strong background in materials science especially in the areas of epoxy, silicones, elastomers, ceramics, plastics, and composites. Key skills include formulation, molding, extrusion, specification, and qualification. Additionally, the selected candidate will have strong skills in product design, prototyping, and testing of electromechanical systems. In the role of Manager, Insulation Systems, you will be responsible for directing and advancing development, specification, formulation, and qualification of best-in-class materials required for new product development with the goal of maximizing product performance. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for building an advanced understanding of materials and process technologies that will drive future new product development to successful commercialization.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading and participating in cross-functional new product development project teams supporting the commercialization of medium voltage electrical products for the utility market.
  • Formulating, designing, prototyping, building, and evaluating insulating structures and components to enable new product concepts.
  • Coaching and overseeing group and individual development using technical leadership and performance management.

Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics

  • MS or greater in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science / Engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited university, and 7+ years of related experience required.
  • Demonstrated success leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors.
  • Proven track record of bringing quality products to market on time and within budget.
  • Strong skills in identifying risks, developing mitigation strategies, alternative solutions, resolving issues, etc. independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to combine disparate ideas into unique solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong desire to succeed with a sense of urgency and a "make it happen" attitude.
  • Strong aptitude for DFMA, DFMEA, and tools to build robust product design.
