We have an opportunity for a remote Director - Advertising Sales and Marketing on our Publishing- Sales team. As a Director - Advertising Sales and Marketing, you will be responsible for the sales management of all advertising sales teams and their corresponding management and sales representatives; Pharmaceutical and Devices Team and the Health Systems and Recruitment Team. Direct revenue responsibility to advance the revenue of the department including management of advertising sales across all print and digital JAMA Network publications and the JAMA Career Center. Overall responsibilities include serving sales management to sales reps, formulating short and long-term financial objectives for advertising initiatives managing and training of the sales force, and assessing business performance against industry and AMA financial quality standards. Growth consistent with market conditions and market share improvement is an important performance criteria for success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advertising Management

  • Partner with publishing sales initiatives through management of objectives, status, tactical and results-driven tracking on revenue-driving initiatives.
  • Manage advertising strategic departmental goals and processes with sales management and sales representatives to ensure unified and accurate performance.
  • Collaborate with VP and fellow publishing leaders (Directors and Managers) of all levels within the different publishing and editorial departments to achieve revenue goals.
  • Plan and manage sales activity with the ability to identify and escalate any issues/risks that need to be mitigated, and take corrective action as needed.

Advertising Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Publisher, VP Publishing Sales, and Editor-in-Chief, to assess the present and future needs, trends, problems, and revenue opportunities for all advertising teams as they relate to maximizing revenue through improved promotion and sales strategies.
  • Works closely with VP of Publishing Sales to create new product platform, establish and maintain vendor relationships, provide sales support tools and training.
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing objectives, strategies, and business goals.
  • Oversee initiatives for Conference sales and marketing strategies to drive new business growth.

Advertising External Support

  • Maintain high-level visibility through contact with customers, agencies, and associations alongside sales management and sales representatives.
  • Travel with sales representatives on selected client-facing sales calls.
  • Visit with client and agency customers or prospects independently as needed.
  • Attend annual meetings and conferences for leadership support and revenue growth.

People Management

  • Provide appropriate training, guidance, and leadership for development of the sales management and staff.
  • Direct the Advertising Sales Managers and Marketing Services Managers to ensure appropriate practical research, promotion, and sales accountability are executed for success.
  • Responsible for setting objectives and evaluating staff performance; assuring staff development.
  • Instills results-focused mindset within the team and demonstrates modern digital acumen.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree required, a business-related marketing, advertising, or sales discipline preferred.
  2. 15+ years of sales management and strategic revenue responsibility demands and a minimum 7+ years in people management and developments.
  3. Ability to navigate complex relationships across sales team needs in both internal and external demands.
  4. Ability to create a cohesive working partnership between self and each rep in a professional manner with team-based encouraging attitude.
  5. Able to build relationships at all levels within internal departments and external relationships within the different levels of a health system or recruitment organization.
  6. Required to excel at supporting complex team structures, efficient time management, and organizational skills as a top priority.
  7. Proven ability to excel in organization, setting meetings, writing skills & identify areas for process improvements.
  8. Proven ability to work with digital systems and social networks in addition to being highly competent in Adobe, Microsoft Office suite, and other system-based CRM/Reporting systems.
  9. Proven integrity when representing the organization to potential clients, accurately representing team or client needs to sales leadership, and clearly articulating the features of the organization with clients.
  10. Some travel required.

The pay range for this position in Chicago IL, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin, or Washington D.C. is 160k-$210k. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location and business or organizational needs.
