Overview

Expected pay for this position is $37.99 - $44.69/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Radiation Therapist will assist with the daily patient flow of the Radiation Oncology clinical location, evaluate/develop new process for patient care, and assisting with other activities to improve Radiation Oncology operations. According to established procedures, assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients and administers treatments. Monitors patients during therapy sessions in order to ensure patients' comfort and to observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment according to the treatment plan and delivers prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. Designs and constructs custom treatment devices for individual patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

License/Certifications:

  • Current Radiation Therapy license issued by IEMA Department of Nuclear Safety
  • Registry or registry eligible with ARRT within 6 months of hire

Education:

  • Completion of a 2-year training program in Radiation Therapy

Experience:

  • Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures and equipment operation
  • Understanding of physics and patient care techniques acquired through an approved program in radiation therapy technology usually lasting one year beyond radiography training.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, allied health personnel, and other Medical Center personnel when explaining procedures and gathering and exchanging patient-related information.
  • Analytical skills required to provide accurate care instructions to patients and interpret physicians' prescriptions for treatment course
