Job Summary

Sam Schwartz is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner to join an interdisciplinary team of consultants (planners, urban designers, and transportation engineers) who can lead a variety of urban mobility projects such as neighborhood and corridor studies, bicycle/pedestrian/micromobility plans, parking and curbside management studies, safety action plans, and other types of projects in the Chicago region and around the country.
Ideal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute significantly to conceptual design, problem solving, and report writing; will be client-facing, with the ability to communicate persuasively and develop positive team dynamics; and will have demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including the ability to understand and anticipate the larger client and business needs while successfully managing day-to-day project demands. Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary Responsibilities

The selected individual will perform a variety of tasks related to transportation planning projects and studies and associated needs, including but not necessarily limited to:

  • Leading interdisciplinary project teams
  • Leading the development of technical reports and presentations
  • Analyzing transportation data and communicating results
  • Developing and applying innovative data analysis techniques
  • Managing projects, including tracking of budgets and schedules, and implementing QA/QC processes
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Supporting business development initiatives and production of proposals
  • Occasional fieldwork and site visits

Skills and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong command of transportation and urban planning concepts and technical analysis needed to support decision making
  • Experience managing transportation projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or other industry software

Requirements

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Master's degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or equivalent degree preferred,
  • 5-10 years of experience,
  • AICP certification preferred, and
  • Authorized to work in the US.
