Responsibilities

Medical Records Tech

Job Description

Assembles, analyzes, and abstracts medical records. Reconciles daily census report and maintains the Master Patient Index. Enters data into departmental computer system. Processes incoming and in-house requests/correspondence as assigned. Files miscellaneous reports. Retrieves records as requested. Responsible for the maintenance of the Permanent and Incomplete Record Area. Answers Department Telephones. Provides cross training and serves as a mentor to other Chart Analysts. Complies with hospital policies and procedures and state/federal regulations regarding confidentiality of records. Participates in employee orientation and on-the-job training. Participates in Performance Improvement activities - concurrent and retrospective chart reviews and other duties as assigned by the Medical Records Department Supervisor.


Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position.

Knowledge: Working knowledge of medical terminology. Good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy skills and typing skills required.

Education: High School Diploma, Associates degree or some college coursework preferred.

Experience: Two years medical records experience preferred
