Job Summary

The major functions are to provide psychiatric care to eligible students and to work collaboratively with the Student Health Service medical staff and Student Counseling Services clinicians. Also included are working collaboratively with other professional staff across the University, and community, to address as well as prevent behavioral health problems in the community.

Additional Information

This position is open to the possibility of allowing remote work within the state of Illinois and considering full-time or part-time work arrangements.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

Commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications

1. Doctoral degree in medicine.
2. Medical license in Illinois within six months of start date.
3. Board certified in psychiatry, or board eligible from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
4. Accredited residency in psychiatry completed before start date.
5. Familiarity with current standards of care, knowledgeable about current assessment procedures, treatment methods, interventions and medications.
6. Possess the ability to effectively communicate with students and staff.
7. Ability to function effectively within the organizational and administrative structure of a university student health service.
8. Be able to work in a group practice situation with a team orientation.
9. Willingness to collaborate with and fully utilize the skills of nurse practitioners/physician assistants.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Comprehensive knowledge of laws and ethical principles related to the practice of psychiatry in a university setting.
2. To be flexible and adaptable by providing health care to a diverse group of college students and by working in a changing environment.
3. Training in psychiatry that is directly applicable to young adults.
4. Previous experience in a university student health service or student counseling center.
5. Excellent understanding of developmental approaches to mental health preferred.
6. Experience with computers including electronic records, e-mail, e-prescribing, coding, etc.

Work Hours

Generally Monday - Friday with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate

Functional Expectations

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
2. Move about in various locations on and off campus as needed to complete day-to-day work
3. Effectively communicate on a daily basis
