Job Summary
Within a highly collaborative team environment, the Content Strategist and Editor will collaborate with Office of Marketing and Communications team members and partner with campus stakeholders to steward the University's brand and express it through editorial content. Exceptional oral and written communication, attention to detail and a commitment to excellence are key to success in this position
Salary Grade
Essential Functions
  • Contributes to and implements integrated communication strategies based on a shared understanding of the University, including mission, vision and values, as well as institutional identity and brand strategy; its audiences and stakeholders; and communications channels.
  • Works with stakeholders to develop and execute creative, engaging content that meets project objectives.
  • Researches, writes and edits informative and/or persuasive content for a wide variety of communication vehicles, including but not limited to direct mail, email outreach, advertising, websites, newsletters, brochures, video and more.
  • Content generation and contribution responsibilities include Prospect magazine and Elmhurst University blogs.
  • Edits and proofreads content on a variety of platforms, including print, web, email marketing, etc.
  • Uses available metrics and analytics to assess and inform content development and share insights and recommendations to improve and optimize content.
  • Actively prioritizes and manages a variety of projects based on deadlines, and routinely reports progress on projects through project management tools and processes.
  • Continues to develop discipline expertise, remains up to date with industry best practices, and shares skills and knowledge with fellow team members to advance cross-training and strategic integrated communications practices.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, marketing, communication, public relations or related field.
  • Five to seven years of experience in related role.
  • Experience working with a content management system, graphic design software, and web analytics.
  • Strong copywriting and editing skills.
  • Excellent multitasking, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to high standards.
  • History of effectively implementing marketing strategies with design elements.
  • A passion for creativity, design, social media and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion within established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity with the AP stylebook.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a supervisory role in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Higher education and management experience.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
