Job Description

The CT Technologist is responsible for performing CT scans by the application of ionizing radiation to produce quality images as required under a variety of conditions along with assisting physicians as required in the selection of practical applications and technical factors.

Job Relationships
Reports to the Advanced Imaging Operations Manager

Principal Responsibilities

  • Produce quality CT scans and be able to anticipate when additional imaging would be beneficial.
  • Good knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Know the capabilities of the computer/scanner.
  • Able to identify pathology and provide radiologist with accurate measurements and density readings.
  • Operate dry laser printer.
  • Prepare CT films for radiologist to read.
  • Responsible for obtaining outside previous or comparison exams.
  • Familiar with pressure injector and doses.
  • Familiar with contract material and possible reactions.
  • Obtain complete patient history.
  • Keep log of all patients.
  • Inform all technologists working in CT of all protocols and any changes proposed by the radiologists.
  • Stay current on CT procedures to provide quality service.
  • Must be able to adapt to flexible working hours.
  • Maintain contrast reaction boxes throughout the Radiology department.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an approved ACR School.
  • Must have five years of experience in CT.

Licenses/Certificates

  • CPR per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiography and CT.
  • Must maintain active accreditation in Radiography with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must maintain professional behavior.
  • Must be able to adjust to various personalities and situations.
  • Must have the ability to control emotions and maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgment.
  • Must be proficient in venipuncture.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to use keyboard and handle equipment and appliances.
  • Must be capable of pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, lifting, and twisting.
  • Must be able to work with arms above head.
  • Must be able to wear lead apron for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to assist patient to and from CT unit.

Working Environment

  • Will be exposed to fumes from cleaning agents or x-ray film processor chemicals, in limited areas.
  • Will be exposed to conditions including exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue, contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
  • Occasional heavy lifting required.
