Social Worker (Police Department)

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $90,321.00 - $110,644.00annually dependent on qualifications.The salary range for this position is $90,321.00 -$130,966.00.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing counseling, therapy, and support to individuals, families, and groups experiencing a wide range of social, emotional, and psychological issues. This position, as part of the police department's crisis response and intervention program, will respond with police personnel to assist in handling police interactions with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, domestic violence, and other crises, and provide ongoing stabilization services to those individuals. This position will also acquire and maintain clients through proactive review of police reports, notifications, referrals, and other requests for service.

The police social worker position requires flexibility in scheduling to ensure operational staffing needs are met, and some evening and weekend hours will be required. The following is an example of a potential schedule for the successful candidate, this pattern repeats every two weeks:

JOB DUTIES:

1. Operates mobile crisis unit vehicle.
2. Responds to police calls for service that are mental health and substance use related.
3. Provides support, information, and linkage to services to community members with issues surrounding mental health and substance use.
4. Maintains ongoing professional relationships with community partners who supply mental health and substance use services. Maintains positive working relationship with police and fire departments.
5. Maintains clinical case notes on services provided along with collecting statistics on the program.
6. Develops ongoing therapeutic relationships with residents who historically have difficulty accessing services.
7. Provides case management services to aid residents with medication management, government aid applications, and life skills.
8. Participates in quarterly staff meeting with community stakeholders.

9. Provides training to public safety officers as needed or when requested by the department.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree in social work, counseling/clinical psychology, or a related field.
2. A minimum of two years of experience providing social work services to the mentally ill.
3. State of Illinois clinical license in social work or an equivalent license.
4. Possession of a valid driver's license.
5. Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Site visits to residences driving the mobile crisis van, which may require traversing over uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and during inclement weather.
2. Potential risk of exposure to infectious diseases and/or disagreeable odors.
