Description

This is an academic position leading the practice and teaching of Emergency Medicine to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals. This role serves as Chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 15%

  • Carry out delegated responsibilities concerning the instruction of medical students in the disciplines of emergency medical services as well as general medical care. This includes: participation in and direction of conferences and seminars; bedside teaching of emergency medicine; and bedside procedure instruction.
  • Act as a role model for the house staff and provide instruction during conferences and in the emergency department.
  • Provide oversight for the emergency medicine rotations.
  • Develop and implement student electives and continuing medical education in emergency medicine.
II. Service (Patient Care) 35%
  • Provide a role model as practitioner for students and residents by maintaining a practice of high quality in emergency medicine.
  • Provide consultative and/or diagnostic service to house staff and other physicians.
IlI. Administration 30%
  • Serve as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
  • Oversees the SIUEM Divisions: Education, Emergency Medical Services, Pediatrics, and Ultrasound.
  • Maintains and strengthens the relationship with Hospital Sisters Health System and Memorial Health.
  • Maintains and strengthens the relationship with the Emergency Department Medical Directors at each partner hospital.
IV. Research 5%
  • Initiate clinical and educational research efforts.
  • Work to obtain funding for support of research and education.
V. Other Professional Activities 15%
  • Participate in assigned departmental, medical school and hospital committees.
  • Participate and serve on committees within regional and national Emergency Medicine academic organizations.



Qualifications

  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Emergency Medicine.
  3. MD licensure in the State of Illinois.
