General Scope of Job

Pregis Systems New Product Development (NPD), based in Aurora, IL, is seeking a talented Sr Automation Engineer to innovate and develop Automation Products and Solutions that will be a driving force in the growth of the company. The Sr Automation Engineer will have responsibility for specific development and support projects as defined and prioritized through our StageGate process. They will be responsible for development and application of technologies into engineered products to provide increased productivity with reductions in cost, waste and labor for our customers. This role requires energy, creativity, solid mechatronics design capabilities, project management, budget and schedule control. This role will report to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering for Systems NPD and interface with VP Engineering, Automation RD Manager, Product Managers, Product Engineering Leads and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electromechanical automation products in a collaborative environment
  • Effectively manage internal and external engineering resources in the execution of development projects
  • Manage vendors for mechanical, PCB, industrial controls (PLC), and industrial design
  • Establish and maintain project objectives, reporting, budget and timing throughout the StageGate process
  • Personally build physical prototypes and proof of concept tests
  • Drive and support equipment installations/integrations in-house and trial customers
  • Train and support service techs for installations and maintenance
  • Manage vendors for fabrication and other prototyping services as needed
  • Design and detail (when needed) in SolidWorks
  • Build and maintain BOM's and estimated production costs throughout development
  • Lead projects through commercialization, including handoff to production, service, marketing and sales
  • Occasional domestic travel required

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years in electromechanical machine design.
  • 7+ years in automation and/or controls
  • 4+ years in project management.
  • Experience in product development, StageGate process preferred.
  • Solid modeling and detailing (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Design for Manufacturability
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skillset required.
