Northwestern University Investment Office

Evanston, Illinois

Investment Associate

Northwestern University is searching for a pre-MBA Associate to join its Investment Office, a 23-person team that is responsible for investing the University's $13.7 billion endowment. The Associate position provides a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure to and experience in institutional investing. While the Associate will typically focus on Private Investments (private equity, venture capital, and real assets), the position itself provides exposure to all asset classes (including hedge funds, public equity, and fixed income) as well as to the overall management of the endowment.

The Associate will be an active participant on the team and assist in many areas of the investment process. Typical responsibilities include: evaluating new and existing investment managers, monitoring the performance of existing investments, and assisting with the preparation of investment recommendations and presentations. The Associate will be expected to perform analysis of investment opportunities (strategies, sectors, geographies), prepare and refine a variety of quantitative analysis, as well as assist in various other projects including risk management and asset allocation reviews. The Associate will need to function effectively as a team member, but must also be capable of working independently. The Associate will work closely with senior level investment professionals, including the Chief Investment Officer, and have an opportunity to interact with the University's trustees.

This is a two-year position designed to provide necessary experience to pursue an advanced degree (e.g., MBA).

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree and a preference for two years prior work experience, preferably from an investment banking, consulting, or other finance-related firm. Candidates should have a strong academic record, demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical ability, excellent organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills, and enjoy working on a close-knit team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning. The candidate must be detail oriented and highly capable in using Excel and other Microsoft Office products.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $105,000-$115,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
