Ideal candidate will be willing to relocate closer to our Burr Ridge, IL office, but this is not necessarily a requirement for a candidate with an appropriate pre-existing skill set.No relocation will be provided for this position.Additional training will be provided prior to performing on-site evaluationson their own. Training will include time spent in our labs to understand how data is obtained regarding dust, flammability and thermal hazard reactions. After completing required training, remote work arrangement may be available for candidates with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Your Day-to-Day:

We're seeking a skilled engineer to help us deliver our vision by applying hazard analysis methodologies to address combustible dust, flammable gas/vapor, or reactive chemistry hazards. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, creative thinker who shares our passion for making the world a safer place.You will join our On-Site Safety Services team which perform dust hazard analysis (DHA) or process hazard analysis (PHA) on industrial processes for a variety of industries. A successful candidate should have a strong background in identifying, characterizing, and mitigating hazards associated with combustible dusts, flammable gases and vapors, and reactive chemistries. The position requires strong problem-solving skills that includes the application of experimental data to industrial settings. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate excellent technical writing skills and be able to provide concise recommendations resulting from a hazard analysis.

  • Establish and maintain strong foundational knowledge of relevant codes and standards
  • Develop and refine laboratory data analysis skills
  • Participate in discovery calls to understand the customer's challenge
  • Assist with project scope development
  • Apply process hazard analysis methodologies to a broad range of process conditions spanning many industries
  • Document process conditions as seen and record deviations from industry guiding standards or regulations (i.e. NFPA 652, NFPA 61, NFPA 484)
  • Devise specific and actionable recommendations to address hazards
  • Communicate technical subject matter through written reports and oral presentations
  • Build professional skills through continued training, education, and networking events
  • Grow company and personal brand through marketing channels

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent, PE certification a plus
  • 3+ years of demonstrated working knowledge of process safety
  • MAAP experience and coding experience.
  • Basic knowledge of process design, safety systems, and process engineering.
  • Must be able to execute projects in a timely manner and have clear communication with the customer.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, andwritten and oral communication skills.
  • Able to understand and interpret regulation codes like NFPA 652, NFPA 654, NFPA 30, NFPA 664, NFPA 61, NFPA 499 and other related codes.
  • Experience with reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, electrical elementary diagrams, etc.
  • Able to travel approximately up to 50% of the time to industrial sites with possibility of international travel e.g. Canada and Mexico.
  • Special Considerationgiven to applicants who have experience implementing and developing OSHA's PSM Program, and specifically conducting PSM PHAs at process facilities.
