Description

The Lead RN position is for the Cardiovascular Surgery.

The registered professional nurse assumes accountability and responsibility for the individualized, age-specific care of a patient along the continuum from admission to discharge. She /He gives direct care to assigned patients and assists with other patient care when necessary. The registered professional nurse's decisions and actions on behalf of the patient/family are determined in an ethical manner. She/He collects and analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses, collaborates with the patient/family and other health care team members, develops a plan of care to attain realistic outcomes, provides education founded on evidence-based practice, and systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

Makes room assignments appropriate to the skill level of the specialty service team.

Manages, plans, and monitors specialty day to-day clinical operations.Develops and maintains preference cards.

Provides direct patient care as needed.

Monitors room turn over.

Collaborates with specialty service team members to ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are available for their cases.

Identifies and coordinates the needs of specialty service physicians through scheduled meetings.

Supports staff and surgeon when there are schedule changes within the service line.

Supports efforts to control costs through conservation o supplies and care of equipment.

Documents all assessments, interventions and patient responses.

Informs OR Clinical Nurse Manager of specialty services activities and issues.

Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures.

Ensures documentation of procedures is complete.

Responsible to ensure staff within specialty service adhere to National Patient Safety god relates to the OR.

Reassesses nursing actions for effectiveness in achieving desired outcomes.

Communicates effectively with the medical staff, nursing staff, and interdepartmental staff.

Collaborates with patient/family and healthcare team members.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Acts as patient advocate.

Delivers care in a nonjudgmental and non-discriminatory manner that ins sensitive to patient diversity.

Delivers care in a manner that preserves/protects patient autonomy, dignity, rights.

Seeks available resources to help formulate ethical decisions.

Adheres to operating room dress code.

Participates in ongoing education activities related to knowledge and skills appropriate to the practice setting (i.e., annual competencies and inservice9.

Evaluates new procedures for specialty service and maintain clinical skills within the practice setting.Seeks out opportunities to participate in educational activities related to clinical, and/or professional issues (i.e., seminars).

Shares expertise by serving as: l . formal preceptor 2. relief unit manager 3. unit educational resource 4. unit based practice committee memberMaintains appropriate certification.

Maintains an awareness of unit based performance improvement activities and participates appropriately.

Qualifications

$5,000 Sign-on Bonus

**Internal employees are not eligible for the Sign-on Bonus**

The Lead RN position is for the Cardiovascular Surgery.

Required:

  • Current licensure in the State of Illinois.
  • BSN within 3 years of hire date.
  • Must be competent in basic nursing and computer skills.
  • CPR certified through the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • Specialty certification in the clinical area of focus.
  • Additional clinical experience in another clinical area.
